HGTV's Design Star Winner Carmeon Hamilton Pays Tribute To Husband After Death In Motorcycle Accident

carmeon hamilton interview

Interior designer and winner of this year's HGTV Design Star: Next Gen, Carmeon Hamilton, has now opened up about the shocking and sudden death of her husband of 10 years, Marcus Hamilton, and paid tribute to their life together, after a motorcycle accident on Saturday, August 28.

Carmeon Hamilton, who won the first edition of HGTV's Design Star: Next Gen in early 2021, went to her Instagram feed on Sunday to announce the death of her husband, Marcus, after he succumbed to the injuries he sustained during his motorcycle accident. The accident occurred in Memphis, Tennessee, which Hamilton calls home, early Saturday evening, and she was alerted to her husband's death late that same night. In her post, she said, in part:

To my extended Internet family, it is with deep sorrow and an eternally broken heart that I tell you that the love of my life, Marcus Hamilton, has passed away...I’m no stranger to loss, but this loss brings something beyond pain. Something I can’t describe. I’m now missing a major part of myself and that void seems to grow more and more every second. I can’t bring myself to figure out Davin’s and my next step, because there shouldn’t be a need for one.

According to the Daily Memphian, which obtained the police report on the accident, at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at N. Watkins and Chelsea Avenue. The driver of a 2010 Mercedes was trying to make a left turn onto Chelsea from N. Watkins when he turned into the path of Hamilton's 2006 Suzuki GSX. Hamilton attempted to avoid the other vehicle by turning right, but his motorcycle still collided with the front passenger side of the Mercedes, which led to him being thrown from his motorcycle.

The driver of the other vehicle was arrested after slurring his words and failing a field sobriety test where he couldn't count backwards or recite the alphabet for officers on the scene, with a blood alcohol test being given to him, as well. The man was charged with failure to yield with serious injury / death, driving under the influence of intoxicants / drugs, and public intoxication. He later posted a $3,000 bond and was released.

As she mentioned in her post, Carmeon Hamilton is now beginning the long process of picking up the pieces after her husband's death with the couple's 12-year-old son, Davin, who started 7th grade just a few weeks ago. While Hamilton and her family are dealing with a devastating loss right now, it's clear that she values the love and support she's gotten from her fans, as she also noted in her post:

But in the midst of this immense pain came a wave of support from the community of people that we’ve worked so hard to build. They are the only reason I have the strength and ability to put these words in writing. Thank you all for being one of the best parts of our love story and loudly encouraging us to be the passionately flawed humans we were, living a life well lived.
