The Spinoff Show Is The Third Iteration Of The FBI Brand

Starting in 2018, FBI became CBS's latest procedural mainstay. Shortly following the success of this new Dick Wolf-created series, the network was eager to keep a good thing going. Only a year later, FBI: Most Wanted got the greenlight. Now, in 2021, we'll get our third addition to the growing brand with FBI: International, a global spin-off that explores the federal bureau's international reach (as the title suggests). Certainly, CBS is invested in the franchise's longevity. We'll see if their viewers are equally as enticed.

Starting on September 21st, FBI: International will join CBS's busy Tuesday night line-up at a special time. It’ll Follow The Elite Operatives Of The FBI’s International Fly Team, Relying On Intelligence, Quick Thinking And Pure Brawn In Lieu Of Guns

Headquartered in Prague, FBI: International follows the elite operatives of the FBI's International Fly Team, as it was noted in the show's press release, and their daring efforts to protect the lives of everyday U.S. citizens — even when they're thousands of miles away from American soil. This division of the federal bureau travels the world, with a steadfast mission to track and dismantle any threat aimed against this nation. And there's an intriguing catch: this group has to rely on their wits, not their bullets.

Totally unarmed, this Fly Team has to resort to their intelligence — in both senses of the word — particularly as their quick thinking is crucial towards completing their missions as safely and tactfully as possible. They also have to use their brawn and bravery to finish their directives. While the spin-off is expected to follow a familiar FBI template, this team's unique disadvantage elevates the stakes in intense, interesting new ways.

The FBI: International Cast Includes Luke Kleintank, Heida Reed, And Vinessa Vidotto

Leading the charge of this upcoming FBI spin-off series are three actors of varying experience. Specifically, Luke Kleintank, Heida Reed, and Vinessa Vidotto have signed onto the show as our primary crime fighters, with Klenintank attached as the Head of the International FBI Fly Team, Reed on board as the second-in-command, and Vidotto's leading part described as a new but ambitious member of the international team. At the moment, not much else is known about their roles, including their character names. But if you've watched your fair share of TV, you might recognize these three performers.

Most notably, Luke Kleintank is known for his roles as Joe Blake in Amazon Prime's The Man in the High Castle and Finn Abernathy in Fox's Bones. Meanwhile, Heida Reed starred in the latter seasons of the BBC's Poldark, and Vinessa Vidotto appeared in Netflix's Lucifer and HBO Max's Hacks. For all three, this will be their biggest project yet.

Dick Wolf - FBI: International Trailer

The Spinoff Show Comes From Legendary Producer Dick Wolf

There are few TV producers more legendary than Dick Wolf. Best known as the creator and executive producer behind NBC's immensely popular (and immensely profitable) Law & Order franchise, the TV heavyweight is also the man who brought all the One Chicago shows to the air, including Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. Now, he's the guy behind CBS's FBI and 2019's spin-off series, FBI: Most Wanted. Over the course of three decades, the mega-producer practically invented procedural television as it is known today. Now, Wolf will continue his dominance over evening broadcast TV with FBI: International, which is the latest addition to his well-oiled, well-proven brand.

FBI International Will Be Showrun By Chicago P.D.’s Derek Haas

Over the past decade, Derek Haas has had a heavy hand in Dick Wolf's TV monopoly. Specifically, starting in 2012, the author/screenwriter co-created Chicago Fire, which eventually led to him developing Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and Chicago Justice. Now, he'll be in charge of another spin-off series with CBS's FBI: International. As the main writer and showrunner of this new show, Haas will likely have more control than ever at the center of this third series in the FBI franchise. Given his success in building the One Chicago line-up into one of NBC's most expansive TV universes, it makes sense that Wolf would be confident in letting Haas handle the reins of this international endeavor.
