3 Reasons Why 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After Season 6 Has Been Disappointing So Far

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? episode "Shadows Of Doubt." Read at your own risk!

There's no two ways about it: 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 6 hasn't been quite as entertaining as past seasons have been. Even with Angela Deem back in the franchise, things have fallen flat so far, so what's the deal? Why has this season felt like a dud for so many fans?

It's hard to pin down where this season went wrong on any single factor, but after 10 episodes, I think I've found multiple examples. These may not be the only reasons why 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? has been so lackluster, but they certainly play a major factor.

Some Cast Members Were Only Just On 90 Day Fiancé

Perhaps the most frustrating part of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 6 is that a chunk of the TLC spinoff's cast was only just featured on the previous season of 90 Day Fiancé proper. Mike Youngquist, Natalie Mordovtseva, Jovi Dufren, Yara Zaya, Brandon Gibbs, and Julia Trubkina all returned, but many of them don't have a lot going on by way of new updates. Youngquist and Modovtseva would be the exception, but their storyline just feels like an extension of the flagship, rather than a true follow-up. Obviously not everyone's lives are filled to the brim with exciting moments, but maybe it would've been best to give these specific couples a break as opposed to making them immediately jump back in for more episodes.

Season 6 Was Filmed Too Far In Advance

For those who haven't caught on to the references made by the cast, the events of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?'s latest episode took place around a month before Christmas 2020. That's 10 episodes in, of course, and given the time lapses in storylines, filming had likely started up more than a few months before that. Also keep in mind that 90 Day Fiancé filmed its latest tell-all in February 2021, well into when this season of Happily Ever After? was in the books. So it should be no surprise that most of the "new" drama already played out in real time via social media (or was at least reported on), and there are really no surprises left for spoiler-friendly viewers to enjoy from the actual episodes.

Much Of The Drama Feels Manufactured

Whether it's Andrei and Libby Castravet inexplicably taking their extended family cross-country in an RV or Kalani Faagata and Asuelo Pulaa visiting a sex shop to rekindle their marriage, 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? has felt packed with manufactured moments throughout Season 6 so far. Sure, there's probably some legitimacy to the problems these couples are facing, but let's agree Mike Youngquist and Natalie's Mordovtseva's big blow-up probably wouldn't have been as intense had their sensitive conversation not ludicrously happened while he was teaching her how to change a truck's oil. It would have felt a hell of a lot more natural if it happened behind closed doors, though. It just feels like producers keep injecting odd scenes or scenarios to heighten the drama, which may have been a sign it was too soon for another season.
