Did 9-1-1 Already Reveal The Finale Fate Of That Major Character After The Brutal Cliffhanger?

Spoilers ahead for the May 17 episode of 9-1-1 Season 4 on Fox, called "Suspicion" and possibly the Season 4 finale.

9-1-1 has a reputation for delivering cliffhangers that can be very, very deadly, and the penultimate episode of Season 4 ended on a twist that might mark the end of a major character. Just as the big case of a mother who has been keeping her child sick was wrapping and Eddie and Buck were nearly ready to leave the scene, a shot rang out and hit Eddie in the chest, spraying Buck with his best friend's blood and sending Eddie down into a puddle of his own blood, and it certainly looked like he was dying (if not dead) when the episode ended. But did the promo for the finale reveal that he survives?

The season finale of 9-1-1 that airs next week is called "Survivors," but that title in and of itself certainly isn't proof that Eddie is going to live, and the promo for the finale didn't show Eddie up and about or anything like that. But it did show Eddie seemingly being treated, and ended on such a sad moment between Buck and Christopher that I can't help but believe that it's a fake-out. It seems like confirmation of the worst that Eddie dies, and that makes me believe that he has to live. Check out the promo for yourself:

The episode only shows Eddie for a couple of split seconds, and I can admit that he looks pretty dead with his gray skin that suggests that he lost a whole lot of blood, which makes me think that some time passes before Buck can get to Eddie and something can be done to help the bleeding. It also sets up the final moment of Buck emotionally telling Christopher that his dad isn't coming home that night.

It's very sad, and Buck/Christopher moments are always a treat, so it would make sense that Buck would be the one to break the news of Eddie's death to Christopher, but it's worth noting that Buck said "tonight" when telling Christopher not to expect his dad home. Plus, whether he lives or dies, Eddie was shot in the chest by a sniper, and it was bad enough that Buck was covered in blood just standing near Eddie.

I don't see any way that 9-1-1 could realistically send Eddie home after taking a shot to the chest like that, so it's only natural that somebody would have to tell Christopher that it would be some time before Eddie could come home. If Eddie dies, Buck breaking the news to his son could be the emotional climax of the Season 4 finale, and I just don't see 9-1-1 putting that in the promo. For my money, Eddie is going to survive and not come home right away, but he will come home eventually.

9-1-1 actor Peter Krause of course didn't spoil the aftermath of the big cliffhanger, but he did drop some foreboding comments to TV Insider, saying of what looked like Eddie's death:

I can’t say, but I can say that the finale episode is action-packed and that the sniper is not stopped before he inflicts more damage.

The promo also revealed that Bobby's life will be in serious danger much to Athena's horror, so perhaps the big fight between them in "Suspicion" will be forgotten in the face of Bobby potentially losing his life. The fight kind of came out of nowhere, but Bobby's resentment about Athena not confiding in him about the possibility of retiring has been brewing, and their argument escalated pretty quickly.

Vote in our poll below about whether or not Eddie survives, and see what happens next with him after being shot in the chest when the Season 4 finale of 9-1-1 airs on Monday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, ahead of the Season 2 finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star. For some viewing options once the shows (both of which have been renewed for the 2021-2022 TV season) head into hiatus, check out our 2021 summer premiere schedule.
