There are a lot of people who desire to lose weight for a lot of reasons, but many of us probably wouldn't have expected famous strongman and former Game of Thrones actor, Hafthor "Thor" Bjornsson to be one of them. Bjornsson has made quite the living for himself by being famously, well, big and strong, and cut a very imposing (and mostly silent) figure during his five seasons portraying The Mountain on GOT. But, the star athlete has now shed over 100 pounds, and looks more like a trim hill than his formerly mountainous self.

Game of Thrones knew what it was doing when it recast the role of Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane with Hafthor "Thor" Bjornsson for Season 4. The character was known to be "freakish" in strength, height, and also brutality, and the 6'9" Bjornsson fit the bill physically and got across The Mountain's propensity for violence very well. Bjornsson has had a bit of a career change since retiring from strongman competitions in 2020, and with his debut as a boxer coming up quickly, he's dropped 110 pounds for the new gig, and has transformed into a fit hill of man, whom most would still be foolish to fuck with. Take a look at Bjornsson's Instagram post celebrating his weight loss:

Oh. OK, that's impressive, right? Now, let's not get it twisted, while losing 110 pounds would severely diminish most people, Mr. Bjornsson is still massive. Remember when I said that he's 6'9"? I didn't make that up, you guys. Put him in a modest platform shoe, and he'd totally top out at a whopping seven feet tall. So, even though he's leaner and definitely more visibly muscular, I will continue to recommend staying on his good side as much as possible. Not that Bjornsson would do this (he's probably a lovely human), but no one wants to see you instigate a Prince-Oberyn-face-crush situation for yourself, you know?

As you can likely guess, dropping over 100 pounds and training for a career as a boxer involves a pretty strict diet and exercise regimen, and Bjornsson has been very upfront about what he's had to do to get his newer, more svelte figure. On his YouTube page, you can see some of his workout, hear exactly what he does in the gym, and also how he eats daily to maintain his musculature. Bjornsson filmed a day in his life for fans, and while he admitted to being "exhausted" and "tired" during several of his workouts, did say that he's happy with how this fitness plan has turned out:

I'm extremely happy with my shape right now. When I started this journey, I weighed 205 kilograms (451 pounds). And now I'm down to 155 kgs (341 pounds). Feeling good, feeling healthy.

See? There's still a lot of man in this former mountain! Hafthor "Thor" Bjornsson now engages in three workouts a day (!!!), and eats five meals (!!), which include a lot of chicken and other things expressly not prepared in the fun way. (Frying. Frying is the fun way to prepare food, in case that wasn't clear.) Bjornsson has stuck with his program, and seen great results, so here's hoping his boxing career will go as successfully as his years as a strongman champ did.
