Chicago P.D.: Upton And Halstead's Investigation Takes A Dangerous Turn In Intense New Episode Clip

Only a few episodes of Chicago P.D. Season 8 are left before the One Chicago series heads into hiatus, and based on recent events on top of what's to come, it's safe to say that the show isn't getting any less intense as the finale approaches. In a clip from the May 12 episode (seen above), Upton and Halstead's investigation into a series of crimes puts them quite literally in the line of fire, and the partners-turned-love interests find themselves in very serious danger.

In the next new episode, called "Safe," Upton and Halstead will have to switch gears from interviewing a victim to racing into action mode to try and catch the attackers striking again in a nearby house. Fortunately, the Upstead partnership is clearly going strong as well as their personal relationship, and neither is hurt in pursuit of the criminals when the bullets start flying.

That's not to say that the cops of Intelligence will necessarily beat the bad guys in this round, but Upton and Halstead may have arrived on the scene in time to prevent the worst from happening. A lot may depend on the status of the injured woman inside of the house with Upton, and whether or not Burgess and/or Voight are conveniently on the other side of the door that one of the criminals slams shut on Atwater. At least the victim seems to be alive and conscious!

Still, "Safe" seems like an episode that will be anything but safe for anybody who gets in the way of the criminals of the week. Intelligence will investigate a series of brutal home invasion robberies, which explains why the first victim was showing the signs of recent injuries and why the woman in the house had clearly been attacked before Upton and Halstead could arrive.

Of course, Upton and Halstead will have more to deal with in "Safe" than the dangerous investigation, as the promo for the episode revealed that Voight is finally going to find out that they're a couple. On the one hand, kudos to them for managing to build a serious relationship right under the nose of Sergeant Hank Voight. On the other hand, it's easy to imagine that Voight might not exactly take the reveal of another complicated relationship in his unit all that well.

Whether he finds out because they're caught in the act of something romantic on the job or several months of clues start to add up or he just cottons on remains to be seen, but it's clear that Intelligence is going to be facing a lot in "Safe" between the case and whatever is up with Upstead.

For her part, the episode description reveals that Upton will immerse herself in the case and find herself caught between Voight and Halstead, and I don't think anybody will envy her that position! Chasing the home invaders in the clip might be less stressful.

Find out what happens with the case and with Upton, Halstead, and Voight when the "Safe" episode of Chicago P.D. airs on Wednesday, May 12 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, as the third block of the hit One Chicago lineup that starts with Chicago Med (which is losing two stars ahead of the next season) at 8 p.m. and continues with Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. before moving on to close out the night with P.D. The One Chicago finales are fast-approaching, so be sure not to miss an episode as the seasons wind down.
