Supergirl Fans Are In For A Long Wait For Final Episodes

Kara weakened in The Phantom Zone Supergirl The CW

The Superfriends managed to save Kara from the Phantom Zone in Supergirl's Season 6 spring finale, but it's almost like they left the fans in her place. While Kara is officially back with her sister Alex and the rest of her friends, anyone eager to see what happens next has a long wait ahead of them.

Unfortunately, Supergirl won't return to The CW for a new episode until Tuesday, August 24. That means there will be more than a three-month gap from the time the latest episode aired to the next new one. That's quite a wait, especially for an audience that just had to endure a first half of the season (which did have history-making moments) in which the lead character was separated from her team and off-world.

The reason for the gap is due to Superman & Lois, which resumes its spot in the timeslot beginning next Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. ET. The new Superman series only aired its first five episodes before it took a month off for Supergirl, and now with its return, it'll run throughout the rest of May and right up to the week before the return of Supergirl in August.

If there's any silver lining to the news for Supergirl fans, it's that the final episodes will come back to Tuesday nights a couple of weeks into Season 2 of Stargirl. Fans looking for another superhero show may be able to fall in love with Courtney Whitmore earlier in the night.

Another positive for Supergirl fans to look ahead to is that Season 6 still has 13 episodes to air before the final credits roll. If The CW commits to a week-to-week schedule per episode, then fans have a steady three months of episodes to look forward to before the series finale, and potentially more if there are gaps injected between each episode. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing given the extensive gap that fans are already facing remains to be seen.

The truth is, whether the audiences likes it or not, Supergirl isn't coming back until late August. Fans will have to wait and see exactly what impact Nyxly hitching a ride out of the Phantom Zone back to Earth will have in the final stretch. Plus, there's still a score to settle with Lex, so there will be plenty for fans to look forward to when the series does finally make its triumphant return.

As mentioned, Supergirl will return to The CW on Tuesday, August 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET. As agonizing as the wait may be for some, perhaps there's some solace in the fact that the team behind the show has already teased that another potential spinoff could happen if the network is up for it.
