Supergirl Showrunners Explain The Latest On A Potential Spinoff

Spoilers ahead for the April 27 episode of Supergirl Season 6.

Supergirl’s sixth and final season is currently airing and the thought of saying goodbye to National City’s favorite team of heroes is undoubtedly tough on many fans who have been watching the CW series through the years. And while Supergirl already has one spinoff in Superman & Lois, could there be another potential spinoff in the works? Supergirl showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller explain the latest.

Preparing to say goodbye is never easy and Supergirl is doing it in stride. However, with the show ending and the Arrowverse always expanding, talks of a spinoff are never off the table. Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller talked to The Wrap about a potential spinoff and while Rovner had said there are no conversations regarding a spinoff show happening so far, Queller has ideas:

I wish! Call the bosses!

The latest episode of Supergirl involved Nia and Brainy time-travelling to Kara’s home in 2009 in an attempt to save Supergirl from the Phantom Zone. The episode involved a young Cat Grant and was only the latest to flashback to an earlier Midvale with a young Kara and Alex. Jessica Queller is more than prepared if she were to get that call with an idea that is a great way to involve favorite characters and elements while still pulling in new stars:

I’m really attached to the Midvale girls, to the flashback episodes [with] young Kara and young Alex and young Cat Grant. I think that would be a great spinoff.

Whether or not a spinoff taking place in the past happens, fans won’t be without the flashbacks for long! Next week’s Supergirl will pick up immediately where the previous one ended and, according to the official episode description, young Cat Grant “may be the reason Supergirl gets out of the Phantom Zone.” How that happens and what repercussions it might have in the present are unknown so fans will just have to watch and see. Kara is expected make it home by the end of the mid-season finale.

Although a Supergirl spinoff is definitely not guaranteed, fans still have a lot to look forward to with the superhero series in its final season. On top of more flashbacks, there will be some familiar characters coming back, including a fan favorite one, and an episode being written by one of Supergirl’s own and directed by an Arrow vet. With this being the final season, there’s no doubt there will be even more surprises in store and Supergirl goes out with a bang. How Team Supergirl’s journey comes to an end is a mystery until the series does come to an end.

New episodes of Supergirl air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, following The Flash.
