What Kanye West Is Asking For In His Response To Kim Kardashian's Divorce Petition

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on Keeping Up with the Kardashians

At this point, it’s no secret that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are in the midst of a divorce, despite the fact that neither has put out an official statement acknowledging it. Nevertheless, details on certain aspects of the legal proceedings have been reported since Kardashian initially filed on February 19. West did not immediately respond to the divorce petition but, now, he has -- and we know what he’s asking for in response.

Kanye West filed his response to Kim Kardashion’s divorce petition on Friday, April 9, according to ET. In her original filing, Kardashian asked for joint legal and physical custody of the pair’s four children, something West was reportedly fine with as the two were said to be set on co-parenting. And in his response, he also asked for joint legal and physical custody of the kids.

The trade also reports that while Kim Kardashian referred to the couple’s prenup in the filing, Kanye West reportedly says that separate property is TBD based on proof at time of trial or settlement. Sources previously told ET that neither West nor Kardashian was planning to contest their prenup and that they were already working to reach a property settlement agreement.

Not much else is known about the legal proceedings between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. However, it has been reported that Kardashian is in a prime position to take ownership of the couple’s Hidden Hills mansion, which is valued at $60 million.

Before Kim Kardashian’s February filing was reported, news swirled around for months, suggesting that she and West were headed for divorce. Among those reports were claims that the two were “living separate lives” and had stopped attending marriage counseling. Kardashian, while not confirming the split, had even revealed her desire for a fresh start at the top of 2021.

Things have now changed for the two celebrities and their children as of late. The two are indeed doing what they can to co-parent, though the result has been somewhat awkward. Though both parents get to spend time with their children, the arrangement they’ve come to requires one to leave the home while the other visits.

Kim Kardashian, for her part, seems to be spending as much time with the children as she can while the divorce moves forward. Just recently, the family went on vacation for Spring Break, and the starlet has been posting a few photos of her hanging out with her little ones.

Given the complex nature of celebrity divorces, there’s no telling when Kanye West and Kim Kardashian will have everything settled. But as ET’s sources tell them, it does indeed appear that the two are trying to keep the proceedings as drama-free as possible in order to avoid contentious situations. We’ll keep you posted on the situation as updates arrive.
