Minor spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s second episode -- “The Star-Spangled Man” -- lie ahead.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured a number of excellent performances over the past decade or so. From veterans like Robert Downey Jr. to newcomers like Teyonah Parris, the stars of the MCU have truly managed to bring their A-game. But a performance that is sure to be lauded for years to come is Chris Evans’ turn as Steve Rogers/Captain America. The fan-favorite actor truly embodied the role, nailing the heroic yet grounded nature of the beloved superhero. Of course, now there’s a new Cap in town in the form of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s John Walker, and actor Wyatt Russell has shared what he thinks about his predecessor’s work.

Steve Rogers may seem like a straightforward character on the surface, but he’s far more than a “boy scout.” This is something Wyatt Russell is certainly aware of, and he shared some thoughts on what makes Chris Evans’ portrayal of the hero so unique:

It's next to an impossible job as far as I'm concerned. You're trying to be a character who's perfect. Then playing against that, of trying to be a character who's perfect but feels like he's not at all, he did an unreal job of towing that line.

Based on Wyatt Russell’s comments to EW, he’s amazed at how Chris Evans was able to balance the seemingly squeaky clean elements of Captain America while also accentuating his flaws. Doing so may not have been easy for the actor but, based on his MCU work, Evans appears to have pulled it off with ease.

Of all the characters in the MCU, Steve Rogers definitely went through one of the more dramatic transformations as the years passed. Rogers began as an earnest 1940s man, who was trusting of the government system he worked for. But after finding himself in the present, Rogers (despite remaining a noble hero) became disillusioned with the powers that be and even found himself hunted by the government he believed in. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s John Walker seems to be the polar opposite so far, as he seems to have no problem working with the government. Wyatt Russell has previously spoken on the differences between Rogers and the somewhat hated (by fans) Walker. One major difference is that Walker has training as a Marine, which gives him an edge Rogers didn’t have. Whether or not this is actually a good thing remains to be seen.

Still, like Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker does seem to have the best of intentions in performing his duties as Captain America. Rogers certainly can’t be replaced, and it’s nice that both Russell and his character have no problem praising the first Avenger.

New episodes The Falcon and the Winter Soldier drop Fridays at 12 a.m. PST/3 a.m. ET on Disney+.
