Most would agree Steve Harvey is one of the hardest working people in show business. Aside from holding down numerous hosting gigs and regularly headlining Family Feud, he also oversees all of his brands and businesses under his company, Steve Harvey Global. One of his most recent productions under that banner is Steve on Watch, Harvey’s talk show on Facebook Watch. Since its debut last year, the show has managed to find a significant audience and, now, the show has just received some good news.
Facebook has just ordered 20 additional weeks of Steve on Watch, which are set to debut later this year, per Deadline. Not only that, but the talk show will also return to shooting in front of a live audience where possible. This change of scenery comes after the first season was filmed remotely at Steve Harvey’s home and featured a virtual audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In light of the news, Steve Harvey released a statement in which he expressed excitement about the opportunity to continue the show. The beloved star also put a strong emphasis on “connection” as his reason for doing the show:
I’m looking forward to the next season of Steve on Watch. Connection has played an important role in our lives over the past year and Facebook Watch is a great place to share stories and connect with fans on a global level. No show is ever the same and nothing makes me happier than sharing my take on things.
Steve on Watch was born after NBCUniversal opted to cancel Steve Harvey’s talk show, Steve, in 2019. Later in the year, Endeavor Content reached an agreement with Facebook Watch to revive the show as an original series on the digital platform. With this, the series was given a new name to reflect its move away from network television.
During the first season, Steve Harvey managed to keep viewers entertained with a variety of guests. Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry and Jack Black are only a few of the big names that popped in to chat with Harvey, who seeks to provide his take “on the everyday issues affecting his audience.” But of course, if you know Harvey, his signature brand of humor isn’t too far away from anything he does.
And as mentioned, the show is paying off for Facebook Watch in a major way. According to Facebook, over 55 million people tuned in to watch Steve on Watch in 2020. The power of Steve Harvey is truly something that should not be underestimated.
It’s great to see Steve on Watch will be continuing in the near future. Sure, Steve Harvey does provide plenty of laughs but, ultimately, he’s also giving audiences a nice dose of positivity during these difficult times.
