American Idol's Katharine McPhee Has Words And A Finger For Trolls Worried About The 35-Year Age Gap In Her Marriage

Katherine McPhee has managed to keep herself busy in the years since her days on American Idol. Not only has she produced music, but she’s established a strong acting career that has seen her star in TV shows, films and stage productions. When it comes to her personal life, McPhee has also found comfort as she’s married to record producer and musician David Foster. Unfortunately, the relationship has been scrutinized by some online commentators due to the 35-year age difference between the two. McPhee has been open about the topic and recently shared some words -- and a finger -- for the trolls.

Katherine McPhee recently opened up about her marriage on an episode of the Informed Pregnancy Podcast. During the wide-ranging discussion, McPhee confirmed that she and David Foster do contend with trolls but that the couple really doesn’t care. As a matter of fact, they don’t mind giving them the proverbial finger once in a while.

Every once in a while it feels good to give [trolls on social media] the finger. But for the most part, we really don’t care. [Foster] will say every once in a while, 'Eventually, we're just going to look normal to people.'

The actress and singer went on to discuss how people have a tendency to put labels on certain situations based merely on what they see. She also made note of one particular perception she deals with, which is the notion that a younger woman only seeks out an older man for personal gain:

There’s such a stigma, I mean I get it, we all have the ability to label things and to look at something for the way that it looks or face value and go, I think, a judgement. I get the judgement initially, but things are never as they appear. Things are never exactly as they appear… The perception of what people try to create, especially with women, it's always the woman’s fault. It's the woman who wants to be with the older man because he has money and he's had success and she wants this, that. I mean, our story's been the complete opposite.

Katherine McPhee and David Foster first met in 2017, with their relationship appearing to be official by December of that year. By June 2018, it was reported that the two were engaged, and they eventually married in London the following year. And just last month, the two welcomed their first child together, a baby boy.

All in all, it definitely sounds like Katherine McPhee and David Foster aren’t letting the haters get to them. The happy couple is aware they may look different to some people due to their age difference, but they’re simply continuing to live their lives. And I think most of us can agree that they should be allowed to do just that without being scrutinized.
