Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis Had A Sweet Reason For Wearing A Hoodie During Golden Globes

Jason Sudeikis at the 2021 Golden Globes

It would be an understatement to say that this year’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony was a lot different from past years. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association opted for a mostly virtual show this year. This led to a number of awkward and buzz-worthy moments throughout the night. One of the key standouts from the night was Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, who could be seen wearing a tie-dye hoodie. His attire quickly captured the internet’s attention, but we’ve now learned Sudeikis had a sweet reason for his choice of clothing.

Jason Sudeikis was one of the many nominees hoping to snag a Golden Globe last night, and the actor ultimately won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series -- Musical or Comedy for his work on Ted Lasso. When the actor was interviewed during the post-show press conference (via Deadline) talk naturally turned to his hoodie. Sudeikis then revealed that it was actually branded merchandise from his sister’s New York dance and workout studio and that he wanted to show his support:

I believe when people that you care about do cool, interesting things, that you should support them, so this is no different than that. I have a multitude of hoodies for a multitude of things that I believe in and support but this one seemed the most appropriate.

Jason Sudeikis couldn’t have chosen a better reason to wear a hoodie to a (virtual) awards ceremony. He definitely seems to be aware of the fact that he has a major platform and can use it to help shine a light on positive enterprises that may normally be overlooked.

With this, it doesn’t sound like Jason Sudeikis has any regrets about having accepted an award in a hoodie. He also had an A+ response when asked how he felt to be the first person to ever accept an award in a hoodie:

If you look back at Audrey Hepburn for Funny Face she also wore a hoodie…No that’s not true.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards definitely gave audiences some interesting moments. From pets crashing the party to Al Pacino apparently falling asleep, the night was pretty unpredictable.

Still, the show featured a lot of positivity amid the occasional technical difficulties and weird moments. Law and Order veteran Christopher Meloni received an incredibly warm welcome when he presented an award. The late Chadwick Boseman also had a special Black Panther moment before he was later honored with a posthumous Golden Globe win.

Jason Sudeikis’ bold fashion choice is definitely something viewers will be talking about for quite some time and, as awards season continues, it wouldn’t be surprising if others take a cue from him. Because let’s be honest, everyone just wants to be comfortable when taking part in these awards shows.
