Marvel fans have a while to wait yet before we get to see Jeremy Renner in action again as Clint Barton / Hawkeye when his eponymous series hits Disney+ sometime at the end of this year. But, it turns out the the man who may be best known for bringing the Avenging archer to life on the big screen has already lined up his next project, and he's going to be sticking with TV, as Renner has signed on to join Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan's new show for Paramount+.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Renner's fans won't have to find an open movie theater or order a highly-priced VOD rental to watch him once his time on Hawkeye has finished airing. The actor has now signed up for Taylor Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown, which was picked up for a straight to series order in January 2020, and will air on Paramount+, the soon-to-be newly rebranded CBS All Access. Renner is slated to star and executive produce, and will be joined by director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen) in those producing duties.

While Hawkeye is set to be a series which will not be short on drama, Mayor of Kingstown sounds as though it will definitely ramp that up by several degrees. The show will center on Mike McLusky (the titular mayor) and his family, who are "power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry." The prison drama is ready to handle some major, real-world issues, such as inequality, systemic racism, and corruption, as the show follows the family while they try to "bring order and justice to a town that has neither."

For his part, Jeremy Renner sounds thrilled to tackle the role, as well as the heavy themes of the Mayor of Kingstown, and said:

I am excited to dig into the complex and rough-around-the-edges character of Mike McLusky. In a world otherwise forgotten in society, Mike serves as a flawed system of checks and balances. Taylor has brought to life a layered and poignant universe that is not only incredibly intriguing but also more relevant than ever.

It's really no surprise that Jeremy Renner would be on board for taking on what will likely be a challenging part in a very deep series. Taylor Sheridan has been on quite the roll the past several years with projects that deal with some heavy stuff while also bringing in great action and dramatic surprises. And, Renner has experience with this first hand, as he starred (alongside fellow Avenger, Elizabeth Olsen) in 2017's excellent mystery, Wind River, which was written and directed by Sheridan.

No premiere date for Mayor of Kingstown has been set just yet, but you can bet that we'll hear plenty from Jeremy Renner in the coming months as he continues to train for and film Hawkeye, which will also feature Hailee Steinfeld as Clint's protégée, Kate Bishop.

Hawkeye is scheduled to debut on Disney+ toward the end of 2021, but in the meantime you can see what's coming to television sooner with our guide to winter / spring TV.
