Yellowstone Is Getting A Second Streaming Spinoff Featuring Familiar Characters

As one of the biggest shows on cable right now, Paramount Network's Yellowstone was already set to become an even bigger franchise when the greenlight was announced for the prequel spinoff series Y: 1883. That new project is set to debut on the upcoming streaming service Paramount+, which has now announced there's another new spinoff in the works that will feature a pair of characters that audiences know quite well.

The currently untitled Yellowstone spinoff will star Jefferson White's rodeo hopeful Jimmy Hurdstrom and Ryan Bingham's oft-maligned guitar player who just goes by Walker. It was not made clear in the initial Paramount+ announcement whether or not this new series means White and/or Bingham will be leaving Yellowstone proper, or if they'll be appearing in both shows. But after hearing what the show is about, assumptions will likely be made.

While the spinoff doesn't have an official title, it's possible it'll feature the somewhat awkward name of 6666. Here's the basic logline for the new spinoff:

Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing. The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made.

Since the 6666 tentative title refers to a completely different ranch in West Texas, it doesn't bode well for Jimmy or Walker sticking around John Dutton's Yellowstone ranch in Montana. Plus, we know that the upcoming Season 4, which Jefferson White has already dubbed the best one yet, is going to feature an episode where Texas was used as a location. At the time that was announced, it seemed like a natural change, given co-creator Taylor Sheridan's Texas upbringing, but now it seems like it might tangentially relate to this growing universe. Unless it doesn't.

It's quite surprising to hear that Jimmy and Walker will likely be heading south for a new show, all things considered. Jimmy's fate was completely left up in the air after he got thrown from his horse again, but without anyone around to check on him. Meanwhile, Walker made his return in Season 3 after temporarily joining the ranch in Season 1, and made himself a true member of the squad by helping kill off those that threatened the ranch (as well as attacked Teeter and Colby). Both characters have served as the butt of many jokes among the ranch hands, so it's possible they feel more of a need to strike out than others serving under Cole Hauser's Rip.

Yellowstone's new spinoff doesn't have a release window set, but we'll hopefully hear about some casting news in the near future. Is everyone excited to see more from the Yellowstone-verse, or is it the Dutton family that makes the franchise work? Let us know in the comments!
