What 9-1-1: Lone Star's Big Change For T.K. Means For The Rest Of Season 2

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the 9-1-1: Lone Star episode "Everyone And Their Brother." Read at your own risk!

The 9-1-1 franchise is always good for an exciting twist or two per episode, but not always ones that have major consequences for the major characters. That wasn't the case in the latest 9-1-1: Lone Star episode, which ended with the reveal that T.K. could very soon be making a change. In fact, the plan would be for him to transition into an entirely different role: an EMT.

Tommy spent the vast majority of the episode looking for someone to fill the open EMT job and had a good deal of trouble finding the proper candidate. Some candidates were too aggressive, others too cowardly, and just when it seemed the team had found its perfect fit, he backed out after being asked to step into a minefield. 9-1-1: Lone Star eventually brought Tommy to T.K.'s application, which quickly led her to realize he's perfect for the job. Of course, she had to talk to Owen about it first and see how he felt about it. After Owen's brief chat with T.K., it seemed like a done deal that it will happen, so how will that affect Season 2 going forward?

Well, as Owen brought up, he'll no longer be T.K.'s captain. T.K. will report to Tommy, which will create a bit of distance between T.K. and his dad as they work in different parts of a crisis. Owen wasn't mad to hear his son wanted to make the switch to EMT but did wonder why the decision was being made. T.K. merely said he's been having trouble with anxiety and coping in healthy ways, and he figured that he'd rather be an EMT than call one.

Under normal circumstances, I'd argue that being an EMT wouldn't be a great job for anxiety, but in the wild 9-1-1: Lone Star universe, I could see it being a bit easier than firefighting. We know T.K. is well-qualified for the job (Owen said he was a "unicorn" candidate prior to knowing it was T.K.), so there may be more room for him to grow professionally in this sector. T.K. is already certified as a paramedic, so he has a head start at future opportunities in the field should they arise.

One thing that won't happen, I'd imagine, is that 9-1-1: Lone Star will feature less of T.K. should this switch become as official as it sounded at the episode's end. T.K. will still be around plenty, just in a different capacity and doing some different things. Fans will still get to see plenty of him, and hopefully, his interactions with that new little brother we learned about at the episode's end.

9-1-1: Lone Star airs on Fox Mondays at 9:00 p.m. ET. Keep tabs on all things happening with primetime television here at CinemaBlend, where we keep readers updated on the latest shows coming each and every month.
