Flip or Flop's Christina Anstead Claps Back At Fans Who Say She Looks 'Sad And Thin' Amid Divorce

Christina Anstead

She may flip houses on HGTV for a living, but Christina Anstead can also flip the script. The Flip or Flop star recently took to social media to respond to commentators who made remarks about her weight amidst her recent divorce proceedings.

Christina Anstead recently posted a bathroom mirror selfie of herself sporting an all-black ensemble. Many fans commented on Anstead’s appearance, claiming she looked “sad and thin.” But she insisted to fans in a follow-up on Instagram Live that all was well:

So, people are commenting that I look really skinnier and I need to eat. This is actually the way that I’ve always weighed. You guys just watched me have babies and then go back to my original weight. So, don’t worry. Everything’s fine.

Fans speculated that Christina Anstead’s petite frame must have had something to do with her divorce to Wheeler Dealers host Ant Anstead. The comments continued to roll in, as one person said, “Love you, please EAT.” Another commented, “Girl eat a cheeseburger please.” The remarks forced Anstead to clap back in her post, “Chill, I eat and I eat healthy.”

Christina Anstead announced her divorce on Instagram after just over a year of marriage. Both she and Ant Anstead share a 1-year-old son named Hudson. Anstead’s soon-to-be second ex-husband revealed on Instagram that it was ultimately her decision to go through with divorce, to his disappointment. Interestingly, fans of the couple were not as hasty to body shame Ant Anstead on his Instagram posts, despite him revealing to People back in December that he suffered from a 20-pound weight loss as a direct result of the split, stating:

It really hit me hard. The impact on me, my sleep, my diet, my stress, it showed. But I reached this turning point where I was either going to dwell in the darkness or I was just going to slap myself around the face a few times and say, ‘Wake up; you’re incredibly blessed. Focus on all the great things.’

Though Christina Anstead may not connect her slender figure to being “sad and thin,” she has opened up in past months about the difficulty of being in the limelight. Her show Flip or Flop, with ex-husband Tarek El Moussa, is one of the highest rated shows on HGTV, but it comes at a high-risk high-reward. In an Instagram post from September, Anstead revealed that she lives in a “state of anxiousness” from being on television. She continued:

I’m so used to it that when it’s not there I tend to feel a void and hop into something that causes the feeling I’m used to. This can be good and bad. And it’s one of the things I’m working on breaking the pattern of.

Despite the social media side chatter, the queen of drab to fab real estate transformations isn’t down for long. Flip or Flop just closed out its ninth season, and Christina Anstead’s spin-off series, Christina on the Coast, will see its third season this spring.
