FBI is on the way back to CBS from its winter hiatus, and showrunner Rick Eid has already revealed that the 2021 premiere of Season 3 will be an "action movie" of an episode with a lot for fans and even newcomers to look forward to. Airing directly after the AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills on January 24, FBI is going with a deadly episode that leaves leading lady Missy Peregrym's Maggie Bell in a complicated position.

With FBI Season 3 returning on a Sunday night as opposed to its usual time slot, showrunner Rick Eid pitched to CinemaBlend what new viewers can expect, as well as returning viewers:

It’s a 45-minute action movie filled with exciting twists, turns and characters.

If you're looking for a few more details when it comes to what FBI is going to deliver with the winter premiere, the episode (called "Crazy Love") will see the FBI team investigating a shooting at a quinceañera that turned deadly with more than one victim. Those victims may not have been the intended targets, however, and the FBI team figuring out the best course of action to take down a suspect will put Maggie in a difficult position between her partner and the man she's coming to love.

Plus, according to Rick Eid, "Crazy Love" will pack in action, twists, and turns as well! FBI may not be a soothing football chaser after the AFC Championship Game, but a lot is poised to happen in the episode. It also won't be the only FBI episode of the week. After "Crazy Love" airs in the special post-AFC time slot on Sunday, January 24, the show will return to its normal Tuesday time slot on January 26 on CBS, before a new episode of spinoff FBI: Most Wanted.

While crossovers between FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, and the rest of the shows set in the same Dick Wolf world may be few and far between due to the current production protocols that resulted in changes through much of the entertainment industry over the past year, FBI does hold a spot in one of television's most expansive shared universes.

Thanks to a special episode that served as FBI's Season 2 finale and doubled as the first crossover between FBI on CBS and Chicago P.D. on NBC, FBI now shares a universe not only with FBI: Most Wanted on CBS and Chicago P.D. on NBC, but also Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Law & Order: SVU, the upcoming Law & Order: SVU spinoff, and any other shows that might spin off.

For now, you can look forward to the Season 3 winter premiere of FBI on CBS on Sunday, January 24. The episode is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET, but will begin airing whenever the AFC Championship Game has finished. The next episode will release on Tuesday, January 26 at 9 p.m. ET and feature Maggie questioning at least one relationship.
