Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Legacies Season 3 premiere "We're Not Worthy." Read at your own risk!

Legacies' Season 3 premiere was a positive one for many characters, but not so much for a couple in particular. Alyssa Chang's future was very much in the balance towards the end of the premiere, so what does it mean for the character's future? Did The CW series prepare an exit for her?

To recap, Alyssa Chang and Chad were about to set out for life beyond the Salvatore Boarding School when Chad inexplicably started spewing blood from his mouth. He fell dead to the ground at the gates of the academy, and Alyssa rushed to The Necromancer to see if her fate would be the same as her linked companion. The Necromancer told Alyssa she was guaranteed a "gruesome and painful" death unless, of course, she surrendered to become his eternal acolyte once more. Alyssa didn't answer before the credits rolled, but I have a hunch this Legacies character is all about self-preservation at any cost.

Alyssa Legacies The CW

Alyssa doing the wrong thing isn't exactly new on Legacies, but the complicated decision she was given may certainly spell her end. Should she disobey The Necromancer, she will die a horrible death. Granted, Legacies characters have escaped inescapable fates in the past, but with actress Olivia Liang's future gig at The CW, there's reason to suspect that whatever exit the show has planned for her, it's permanent.

News broke in early 2020 that Olivia Liang had been cast as the lead in The CW's Kung-Fu reboot, which is a sure step up from her supporting role as Alyssa Chang on Legacies. It's also quite a commitment, and there was speculation at the time that Liang would be stepping away from her role in Legacies to be in the new series. With Season 3 opening up with the threat that Alyssa Chang may die if she disobeys The Necromancer's evil wishes, it seems like that could be the way Legacies writes her off the show.

With that said, Legacies is no doubt aware of the chatter of Olivia Liang's exit and could be toying with fans early on. After all, it seemed she was already being written off before Chad died, so we've already gotten one red herring. Alyssa is a great side character, and it would be a shame for her to die unceremoniously carrying out deeds for The Necromancer. I'm sure fans would rather see her saved by the students at the Boarding School, and then Alyssa sent on her way for some potential guest-star role in the future.
