Um, Matthew McConaughey May Be Interested In Joining The WWE

The WWE has a history of grabbing the attention of celebrities, and even occasionally collaborating, and the brand could be getting one of its biggest celebrities in quite some time. It appears Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey may be interested in joining the WWE, and it's possible something could be in the works if his latest comment on the organization is to be believed.

McConaughey recently appeared on Better Together with Maria Menounos, and as luck would have it, both are fans of WWE. Menounos asked the actor point-blank if he'd ever considered stepping into a wrestling ring, and McConaughey appeared to give a really telling answer on the question.

I'll say not too much 'cause as you know, can't say too much about these things. But it is something that interests me.

That's the kind of response that an actor or actress might give if there was something in the works, so it's possible Matthew McConaughey is already discussing some sort of arrangement with WWE that lands him in a wrestling ring. Granted, the actor really only said he's interested, but what would be the reason for "not saying much" if there's nothing to express beyond his enthusiasm for pro wrestling?

Another interesting thing to note is that WWE covered the podcast interview on its official website, which could point to future collaboration between the two. Matthew McConaughey was first spotted as part of the digital audience at WWE Thunderdome, cheering on wrestler Drew McIntyre. The camera called attention to the moment, and McIntyre later interviewed the actor for an online segment.

The whole sequence of events feels similar to past times celebrities have become involved in the WWE, with one notable example being Stephen Amell. The Arrow star was featured in the crowd at a WWE event, which turned into a feud with former WWE star and current AEW star Cody Rhodes. It all ultimately turned into Amell having a tag-team match against Rhodes (then named Stardust) at SummerSlam 2015, but only after many teases similar to what Matthew McConaughey has been doing as of late.

With that being said, why would Matthew McConaughey get into WWE with the prolific career he continues to maintain in Hollywood? The answer may lie in his response to Maria Menounos about wrestling and what he loves about WWE.

I love the suspension and disbelief, 'cause my kids and I watch it. And they're starting to get that when they go, 'Oh this is fake.' I'm going, 'What are you talking about? No way!' Because I won't give them the wink yet, but they're starting to get that in there, there's a bit of one, ya know? Two of them are like, 'this isn't fake, it's real!' That's so much of the fun of it, is going, 'This is real.' And it is.

Matthew McConaughey's kids are getting into wrestling, and who wouldn't want to be that cool dad that wrestles with some of the heroes they see on TV if they have the opportunity? It sounds like Matthew McConaughey could get that opportunity, and with WrestleMania not that far off, it would be a headline event to draw additional eyes to the brand's biggest pay-per-view event.

Would Matthew McConaughey wrestling on television pull you back into wrestling? Fans that are still watching can share their thoughts in the comments, as well as tune into Smackdown Live! on Fox this Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
