Why Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Is Being Replaced In NBC’s Schedule Soon

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist

Although there were hurdles to overcome, NBC’s musical dramedy series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist began airing its second season earlier this month. Unfortunately for fans, however, Zoey's primetime streak isn't going to last too long. The show will go into a hiatus to make room for two other NBC series. Prepare for a shortage of heart songs come February!

According to Deadline, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist will go into hiatus after just six episodes of Season 2, which aired in the show's new time slot of Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. The final episode before the break airs on February 9. ZEP will go off the air so that two new comedies can take over that time slot. The two 30-minute series that will make their debut are Young Rock and Kenan on February 16. No need to worry that Zoey and her pals are going to be gone from primetime for good, though; Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist will be back at some point in the spring.

There is no news yet of exactly when Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist will come back and finish its second season or what time block we can expect it to pick up. The hiatus may come as a surprise, because the numbers for the musical series are as strong as ever since the premiere of the second season with around 3 million viewers tuning in on the first day.

There is no lack of new ideas or material in the new season either, as the first season ended with some high emotions and questions to be answered. Even though the pandemic won’t be included in the show, it sure has affected the show with one star having to leave the show unexpectedly. Even if it's not forever, it’s sad to see ya go Zoey!

As for Kenan and Young Rock, the pairing of the two new series is fitting, as they are both named after their famous stars. Young Rock follows the life of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson before he was a massive star and, by the looks of the child actors who play Johnson as a boy, before he was actually massive. Kenan stars Kenan Thompson, SNL all star, as he navigates fatherhood alone and balance his work life as a morning talk show host. Thompson should be right at home in his new role and is bringing some of his SNL buddies to his new show on NBC.

Dwayne Johnson and Kenan Thompson will be sticking to their time slot previously held by Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist through the end of May, which will hopefully be long after the singing series is back on the screen this spring. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist airs on NBC Tuesday nights at 8pm Eastern for the next few weeks and then it’s sayonara until spring!
