How Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page Responded To Fans’ Hopes That He’s Dating Co-Star Phoebe Dynevor

A huge part of putting together any production is making sure that the actors have the appropriate chemistry. Characters who are friends and family should feel like friends and family on screen when we watch what will likely be virtual strangers perform those roles. As you might imagine, this whole chemistry thing is even more important when actors are needed to portray characters in a romantic relationship. If you're Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor, and your characters got up to a lot of sexual shenanigans, it's going to be natural for fans to think you're doing it irl. Well, Page has a response to fans' hopes that he and Dynevor are dating.

Netflix viewers who have already tuned in for Bridgerton had the chance to watch Phoebe Dynevor (as Daphne Bridgerton) and Regé-Jean Page (as Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings) take their characters from enemies to friends to marrieds and eventual lovers. When the chemistry is as right between actors as it is with Page and Dynevor, it feels so real that fans either assume they're dating off camera, or quickly hope that they are. When asked recently by Access Hollywood if sparks flew behind the scenes for any of the actors, Page said:

I think everything you need to know is on camera. That's why we presented it so beautifully for you. All the sparks that flew off of the beautiful scripts that we were handed, and so I think that the sparky scripted material are more than enough.

I see what he did there. Basically, Regé-Jean Page is saying that any sparks you might have noticed between himself and Phoebe Dynevor were mostly manufactured by the writers, who created the basis for all of that will-they-won't-they tension with Daphne and Simon. I suppose they'd both rather that fans didn't analyze every interview they do together and see if questions like this lead to them blushing (or infer anything from the fact that Page didn't outright say "we're not dating"), so we can all take his words at face value, right?

Of course, Bridgerton fans will also know that while the writers helped to create (by adapting the work of author Julia Quinn) a delicious slow burn-esq romance between Simon and Daphne, once the two fully realized they were into each other, it didn't take long for things to progress very quickly.

After an encounter in a garden leads to Daphne's potential ruination (insert massive eye roll for the olden times), they marry. Not only do we get to see them enjoy their wedding night, but once inexperienced Daphne and well-versed Simon take up residence at his estate, they engage in one of the most talked about bangathons ever created for television.

We saw a bare bottom, you guys. More than once! In a show about the Regency! No wonder fans are thinking / hoping that Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor are dating each other during their down time. That was some hot stuff!

At any rate, we haven't heard from Netflix yet that Bridgerton has been renewed for Season 2, but there's a pretty good chance that it will be, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for updates. All of Bridgerton Season 1 is available now, but if you'd like more to watch, check out our guide to winter / spring TV!
