Jared Leto May Return To TV For His First Big Role Since My So-Called Life's Jordan Catalano

Jared Leto and Claire Danes in My So-Called Life

Decades after playing Angela Chase’s bad-boy boyfriend Jordan Catalano on My So-Called Life, Jared Leto may be making a return to scripted television. After the teen drama ended, the eventual Oscar winner spent the next two decades filling up an impressive film resume. If this deal goes forward, it will be the actor’s first major television role since the short-lived ABC series was canceled.

With a return as The Joker on the horizon via Zack Snyder's Justice League, Jared Leto is currently in talks to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ series WeCrashed. According to Deadline, Insiders are saying the talks between Apple and the actor are close to being completed, but that the deal may not go forward if they don’t reach an agreement.

If everything works out, however, Jared Leto will play WeWork founder and CEO Adam Newmann in WeCrashed. The upcoming project is based on the popular podcast of the same name hosted by journalist and lawyer David Brown. The acclaimed podcast documented the rise and fall of real estate company WeWork and its founders.

The company was valued at $47 billion, and was ready for a huge IPO, with its charismatic CEO Adam Neumann thinking it would change the world. Neumann had a prophet-like vision for WeWork that he sold to some of the world’s savviest investors — but did his vision ever match the company’s reality? Don't be so sure.

The new streaming project will be helmed by the directing duo behind Crazy Stupid Love and NBC’s This is Us, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Good Boys writer Lee Eisenberg and producer Drew Crevello will write for and serve as executive producers for the upcoming Apple TV+ hopeful.

For Jared Leto, this will be a nice return to his television roots after so many years away from the medium. As a kid of the 1990s, hearing this news brings back visions of seeing Angela and Jordan constantly going back and forth as a representative couple of teen angst and unhealthy relationships.

After making his film debut in 1995’s How to Make an American Quilt, he landed key supporting roles in films like The Thin Red Line, Girl, Interrupted and American Psycho. He later moved onto leading roles in Requiem for a Dream, Chapter 27 and Suicide Squad, winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club.

Currently, Leto is in the middle of developing several projects of his own. He is set to star in a sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy with Garth Davis set to direct, and he is headlining the Spider-Man spinoff film Morbius. Beyond that, he is set to star in the Ridley Scott-helmed Gucci alongside Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Robert de Niro; the film will focus on the 1995 Gucci family murder case. The actor will also appear alongside fellow Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Rami Malek in the Warner Bros. thriller The Little Things.

So while it might not come to fruition, TV audiences could soon see Jared Leto on the small screen in a whole new way. While waiting to hear more, head to our Fall TV 2020 premiere schedule or our 2021 Fall TV schedule.
