What Virgin River's Stars Think Of That Big Season 2 Cliffhanger

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 2 of Netflix's Virgin River. Look away until you've caught up!

Well, we had a pretty long wait until we were able to feast our eyes on Season 2 of Virgin River, but it did not disappoint when it came to throwing some serious curve balls our way! Just like with Season 1, the finale for the second season gave us plenty to think about until we get word on whether or not Netflix has renewed the drama for Season 3. And, now the stars are revealing what they think of that big Season 2 cliffhanger.

As one of the central couples on Virgin River, Mel and Jack have had some major obstacles thrown in their way when it comes to being able to fully realize their love for one another. Each of them is dealing with a ton of emotional baggage, Jack's beyond annoying ex, Charmaine, is pregnant with his twins (!!!!), and on top of that, Jack spent a large part of Season 2 pissing off the local drug dealer by trying to shut him down. The finale saw Jack get shot in the gut in the last seconds, and now stars Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge are opening up about the cliffhanger.

They recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the events of Virgin River's Season 2 finale, and when Breckenridge teased that we don't know if Jack will be OK, Henderson said:

Well, I know because I've read everything that comes after. I'm not saying he is but I'm just saying I know. Never lose hope. Monroe is an amazing nurse practitioner so he's in good hands...But anything can happen on Virgin River.

I mean, look, if the small town drama can kill off the supremely dangerous ex-husband of one character within a few minutes of viewers meeting said ex-husband for the very first time, then Martin Henderson has a point. Truly anything can happen on Virgin River. But, Mel and Jack are finally getting to start something great by the time we see Jack bleeding out on the floor of his bar in the finale, so would the show actually dare to do something so drastic to us so soon?

And, forgetting for a minute about what it would do to fans who've been rooting for those two crazy kids to get together already, what would a dead Jack do to Mel? I'm sure you remember that she's already lost her daughter and her husband. The show would basically be attempting to kill Mel with grief if Jack died right now. Adding to that, here's what Alexandra Breckenridge had to say about the potential for Jack actually dying:

That would be weird because then you'll have to watch Mel go through what she did in season 1 all over again. It would be so tragic, especially for me. I don't want to have to relive that stuff anymore. I think they're all in at the end of season 2.

They are all in, Alexandra! In case you missed it, Jack and Mel had their second adult rendezvous not long before Jack was mysteriously shot in his bar. Mel had finally told Jack she loved him and everything. Do not rip this love away from us Virgin River! 2020 has been too hard!

Speaking of the shooting itself, the season gave us plenty of possible suspects when it comes to who was bold enough (and angry enough) at Jack to walk into his place of business and put a bullet in the war vet. So, will drug kingpin Calvin end up being behind this, like so many of the other nasty deaths and disappearances around town? According to Breckenridge:

The writers definitely are leading you to believe that it's that group of people, it's the Calvin group of people. If there's a season 3, maybe there will be a twist in that.

I don't know about you, but I'm just going to assume this means that Charmaine has lost the last of her marbles, shot Jack, and will have to give birth in prison. This would certainly take care of one of Mel and Jack's problems when it comes to Season 3!

Virgin River hasn't been renewed for Season 3 yet, but stay tuned to CinemaBlend for updates. You can revisit Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, but in the meantime, see what's coming to the small screen in early 2021!
