Netflix's The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page, has come out as a non-binary, transgender person, as of Tuesday morning. The Oscar-nominated actor also known for their roles in Juno, Inception and the X-Men films shared the news with a heartfelt message in tribute to the trans community that has "endlessly inspired" them and so many others. Page also took a moment to bring to attention the still prevalent hate, “jokes” and violence transgender people around the world face everyday.

Following their announcement on Twitter and Instagram, Elliot Page received an outpouring of support, including from Netflix, Umbrella Academy co-stars and a slew of other notable names. The 33-year-old actor uses both he/him and they/them pronouns. Check out what Page said in their announcement:

I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life… I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.

Netflix commented on Elliot Page’s announcement with a sweet response confirming that the actor would continue to reprise their role in Umbrella Academy, which was officially renewed for a third season last month. The superhero series’ second season came out over the summer to big numbers. Here’s Page’s full letter and Netflix’s response:

Umbrella Academy’s Ben actor, Justin H. Min, shared the announcement with a message as well. He echoed David Castañeda's positive sentiments and elaborated, saying:

Welcome to the fam, elliot.

The news also reached Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad filmmaker James Gunn. The writer/director said this:

Elliot, I love you, am proud of you, and admire you. Please keep being a beacon of courage, compassion, and strength for all of us.

A number of other big names responded to Elliot Page’s announcement with love, including Happiest Season’s Dan Levy and writer/director Clea DuVall who sent hearts their way. Patricia Arquette sent out “Sending you love and support," and legendary Rosemary’s Baby actress Mia Farrow wrote this:

Wishing you every blessing and happiness as you begin your new adventure dear Elliot!! How great!

We certainly can’t wait to see what Elliot Page does next, especially in their Umbrella Academy role following the series finale and considering how badass and powerful Vanya has been on the show. Elliot Page has long been an LGBTQ+ advocate and will continue to be an important figure in Hollywood as as a non-binary trans person. You can find Page on the small screen with the first two seasons of The Umbrella Academy streaming on Netflix now.
