Miley Cyrus Just Revealed She Had A Sobriety Setback During The Pandemic

Miley Cyrus has had her fair share of notable moments in the spotlight, from her stint as a star on Disney Channel to her over-the-top performances on stage. Her marriage to longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth and their eventual divorce was also highly publicized as was her later relationship with singer Cody Simpson. But aside from her work and love life, Cyrus has also been open about her relationship with alcohol and her efforts to remain sober. While they were together, both she and Simpson found a way to maintain sobriety, but Cyrus has now opened up the recent setback she experienced in quarantine.

Miley Cyrus recently admitted that while in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic, she “fell off” from sobriety. The singer and actress got real when explaining that she wouldn’t sit back and lie about remaining sober throughout these last several months:

Well, I, like a lot of people being completely honest during the pandemic fell off… I would never sit her and go, “I’ve been fucking sober,” and I didn’t.

During her interview on Apple’s New Music Daily with Zane Lowe, Miley Cyrus went onto say that she’s now sober again. Despite hitting a bump in the road, she says she’s accepted that time, and she’s choosing not to be angry with herself:

I realize that I now am back on sobriety, two weeks sober, and I feel like I really accepted that time. And one of the things I’ve used is, ‘Don’t get furious, get curious.’ So don’t get mad at yourself but ask yourself, ‘What happened?”

Cyrus further explained that she doesn’t have a problem with drinking, in particular. For her, the battle is with her behavior when she’s under the influence:

I don’t have a problem with drinking, I have a problem with the decisions I make once I go past that level of… Even into, I've just been wanting to wake up 100%, 100% of the time.

Having just turned 28, Miley Cyrus is more than aware that making it past 27 is a major accomplishment, given that so many musical talents lost their lives to addiction at that age:

Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse are a few of the celebrities who all died at that age. It's a very pivotal time. You go into that next chapter or this is it for you.

Cyrus’ makes a poignant observation in that Hollywood has seen so many talents leave before their time due to addiction. That’s probably why she and stars like Demi Lovato have rarely shied away from being open and honest about their personal battles. It’s good to see that Cyrus is once again sober and, hopefully, her sentiments may help someone else who may be dealing with a similar situation.
