Looks Like Scarlett Johansson And Colin Jost Had An SNL Pal Officiate Their Wedding

Just a quick month after Colin Jost joked about having a wedding during a pandemic, the SNL “Weekend Update” personality ultimately did marry his partner Scarlett Johansson in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Some of those family and friends included Saturday Night Live personalities and now we’ve learned one of those even officiated the wedding ceremony.

The wedding, which rolled with the tagline “Jost Married,” was actually officiated by none other than Steve Higgins. While he’s not as well-known of an SNL name as Michael Che or Kate McKinnon is, Steve Higgins has been around the NBC late night sketch series for a long time. Higgins is a writer and executive producer for SNL and has been involved with the series since 1995.

You also may know Steve Higgins better for the announcing work that he did on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon during its run before Fallon got the more prime Tonight Show gig. In addition to popping up in and around SNL, Higgins has also acted occasionally and was in Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, which also featured a lot of current and former SNL cast members. Along with all of these other entertainment talents, apparently he can also officiate weddings and did so for Jost and Johansson, per THR.

We don’t know a ton of details about the wedding between Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost in what is her third marriage and his first. Meals on Wheels actually broke the news that the two famous names had gotten married, as the couple encouraged people to donate to the charity as part of their wedding festivities. Later, Colin Jost was seen wearing a wedding ring on Saturday Night Live, therefore confirming the news.

Other details, beyond Higgins officiating and the Meals and Wheels component did come out, including the fact the couple allegedly sent Save the Dates on index cards to “save money” as they jokingly noted on the leaked cards. (And also possibly because the wedding was allegedly planned in a hurry and that was a funny move.)

Initially, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost said they were postponing the wedding during the pandemic. However, I don’t know that most people who had weddings planned last spring would necessarily have guessed or have fully understood that Covid-19 would still be a factor eight months later. It’s been a weird year, but a small and intimate ceremony seems to have worked for the couple, who has been fairly private about their personal lives anyway.

Next up, Colin Jost will be back on “Weekend Update” when the show returns to NBC’s primetime schedule after a few weeks off. In addition, Scarlett Johansson has her Black Widow solo movie (eventually) coming up, along with roles in Sing 2 and possibly Little Shop of Horrors, where she may act with her longtime Marvel pal Chris Evans.
