Big Brother Spoilers: What A Cody Victory Could Mean For Future Seasons

Cody Calafiore Big Brother All-Stars CBS

Warning! The following contains some spoilers towards the events of Week 11 in the Big Brother All-Stars house. Read at your own risk!

Big Brother All-Stars is nearing its end, and now that Cody Calafiore has assured that he will be there on finale night, some have called for production just to walk him out of the house and hand him the check. Finale week does feel like more or less a formality at this stage, and in truth, it has felt that way in regards to a potential Cody win since The Final 6.

Regardless, it seems like barring some major betrayal by Enzo Palumbo and Nicole Franzel where they happen to beat Cody twice and not take him to Final 2, this game is for the actor to take. I've been pondering what his win (assuming he does come out on top) would mean for the future of the franchise, and whether or not a Cody win would be looked back on positively or negatively by fans and future players. Here are some of the scenarios I'm kicking around.

Cody Calafiore Is Remembered As A Top 5 Player

Whether you like Big Brother All-Stars Part 2 or not, there's no arguing against Cody Calafiore's play. He's won 7 competitions going into finale week, masterminded nearly every Head of Household nomination since the game's beginning, and has never been nominated or put on the block once.

If it's evidence of one thing, it's that majority alliances that consist of physically dominant players work. The Committee gave Cody the shielding he needed to make it to the late stages of the game, and with their collective agreement not to turn on each other, he had his strategy laid to the point that none of them realized it was their time to go until it was far too late. I see a world where the fandom ultimately respects this gameplay, and future seasons will be lined with players hoping to become the "Cody Calafiore" of their own seasons.

Cody's Win Is Minimized Due To Boring Season And Pre-Gaming Allegations

It's been impossible to escape the bitterness on the internet surrounding Big Brother All-Stars, and as someone whose job involves predicting the outcome of the game's events, I can attest that the season has flowed in a very predictable manner. The all-stars were straightforward, the majority alliance was rock solid in its allegiance, and the result was a systematic takedown of all other houseguests and scenarios playing out exactly the way they intended.

It's a feat that would be a lot more impressive had allegations of pre-gaming between Cody Calafiore and Nicole Franzel not been floating around both inside the house and on the internet. The explicit details aren't known, but there has been enough chatter from houseguests that it seems likely from my perspective that Cody and Nicole had pregame alliances and intel on who else was in the game, and were able to make some alliances accordingly that benefitted their plan for a Final 2. The alleged deal ultimately would have left those outside the alliance trying to scramble in the opening weeks to forge bonds, and at a distinct disadvantage thinking they could work with people who were already working elsewhere.

There are some who already believe Cody Calafiore's win is tainted by these pre-gaming allegations, though I can't say whether or not that talk will continue in the months after his presumed win. Perhaps viewers will soften as time passes and the dullness of this season fades. If it doesn't, I can't imagine Cody's win being remembered as something other than a guy who benefitted from cheating and got away with it.

Big Brother Will Work To Ensure A Win Like Cody's Doesn't Happen Again

Cody Calafiore's strategy, pre-gamed or not, was calculated to capitalize on all the major do's and don'ts of modern Big Brother. Cody was able to stay on top because he was in a majority alliance packed with people wishing to only make boring moves, and try to lay as low as possible until their time to strike came. It resulted in weeks of safety, but at the end of the day, they were all picked off the same, leaving Cody with the three people he wanted with him in the end since he first entered the house.

Given the response to this season, I would be surprised if Big Brother's bigwigs don't try to do everything in their power to ensure something like this doesn't happen again. I'm sure the new season will come with some new twists that try to shake things up a bit for the house, or a cast will be selected that tries to discourage the idea that getting all the strong people together to immediately target weaker players is the best idea.

Big Brother Will Praise Cody, Continue As If Fans Never Complained

Big Brother has a tendency to praise most of its winners regardless of what the fans think of them, which may be why someone like Nicole Franzel found her way on this season to begin with. No doubt the franchise will show the appropriate amount of love to Cody for his win, but we've had no indication that anybody at the show is at all upset with how the all-star season has gone down.

One thing to remember is that there was allegedly a point in this process where it looked like CBS may not greenlight a season period, so some of the rushing around to make this season come together could be blamed for how it turned out. Also, it's been confirmed that a few former houseguests outright said no to doing the show in the midst of a pandemic, so who knows who would or wouldn't be on Big Brother All-Stars had the first choices to appear all said yes?

The bottom line is, Big Brother's crew may agree that all-stars wasn't all it was supposed to be, but perhaps they're not blaming the players or the playstyle of the modern game for that. If that's the case, we'll just have to hope that future seasons are full of players that aren't familiar with the game, and therefore create some of the good old-fashioned chaos people like to see.

Do you think Cody's likely win will impact the future of Big Brother in any way? Let us know in the comments and be sure to watch Big Brother All-Stars on CBS Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting at 8:00 p.m. ET.
