Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Actor Finally Confirms Role In Disney+’s Loki

Tom Hiddleston as Loki in The Avengers (2012)

Marvel Studios is among the many entertainment entities that has restarted work on its projects following the industry-wide shutdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. One the TV side, the studio is currently overseeing the filming of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, which had only just begun shooting when things shut down. Now, to mark the restart of production, a Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker alum has now confirmed his involvement with the show using a Tom Hiddleston-centric post.

Months ago, Richard E. Grant, who played Allegiant General Pryde in The Rise of Skywalker, was reported to be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Loki. Fast forward to the present, and the veteran actor has formally announced via Twitter that he has signed on for the show. He also geeked out about finally getting to work with colleague Tom Hiddleston. Check out his post below:

Richard E. Grant is a true talent, and the prospect of him joining the MCU was definitely an exciting one. So it’s nice to finally have confirmation of his inclusion. And the icing on the cake (for him and for fans) is that he’ll be able to join forces with the always-delightful Tom Hiddleston.

Ironically, Grant isn’t the only member of the Loki cast who has some kind of connection to Hiddleston. Gugu Mbatha-Raw actually attended the same drama school at the same time. Not only that but, back in 2010, the actress was in California shooting the NBC series Undercovers at the same time Hiddleston was filming Thor. During that period, Hiddleston told her about his experiences working on “this new movie.”

Loki is lining up a stellar cast, which already includes Hiddleston, Mbatha-Raw, Sophia di Martino and Owen Wilson. Behind the camera, Rick and Morty’s Michael Waldron serves as head writer, showrunner and executive producer, Kate Herron is directing and Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing.

The Disney+ series is set to focus on the God of Mischief that disappeared with the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame. With this, audiences won’t be seeing a Loki that’s been somewhat reformed. Instead, he’ll be closer to his trickster roots, as he uses the cube to cause mayhem. And while it hasn’t been confirmed, Marvel’s first Disney+ teaser seemed to indicate that Loki would get on the radar of the Time Variance Authority.

But in addition to having the character cause his fair share of trouble, Loki will also see the lead character mature in some ways. Michael Waldron has also explained that the series will further explore Loki’s internal struggle with identity.

Based on what we know about the character, Marvel’s Loki should be a lot of fun, and the fact that it’s now added Richard E. Grant just makes it all the more intriguing.

Marvel’s Loki is expected to hit Disney+ sometime in 2021.
