During Batwoman’s DC FanDome panel, Javicia Leslie expressed excitement about getting to wear the Batsuit and discussed the changes she was hoping to implement alongside showrunner Caroline Dries. In short, Leslie wanted to make sure that the Batsuit was true to her and the character of Ryan Wilder. Fan art has imagined what she will look like in the Batsuit, but we don’t have to wonder anymore. Recently, Leslie dropped a first look photo while in costume and promised fans a new spin on the Batsuit in Batwoman Season 2.

Javicia Leslie was officially cast to play Batwoman in July, two months after it was announced that Ruby Rose was parting ways with The CW series. Meanwhile, Leslie has been enthusiastic about playing Batwoman on social media and in interviews, calling it an “honor” to take on the role. With Batwoman’s return to filming, it was only a matter of time before fans got a glimpse of Leslie in the Batsuit, and it finally happened. Over on Instagram, Leslie posted a head shot of herself in Batwoman’s mask and red wig. Take a look below:

The Batsuit looks a whole lot like Kate Kane’s Season 1 costume, but Javicia Leslie did confirm that Ryan will put her “own spin” on it in Season 2. My guess is that Ryan will start out by wearing Kate’s old suit in early Season 2 before eventually making one that is better suited and unique to her character. I think it’s why we only got the top half of the Batsuit in the picture instead of a full body shot. I’m rather excited to see what the design changes will look like, but I’m sure Leslie will look amazing in it no matter what.

While Ryan is a brand new character, Caroline Dries revealed that she will be "inspired by Batwoman" to take on the role of a vigilante. However, fans shouldn’t expect Ryan to be very good at the whole superhero business at first, and I’m sure there will be a major learning curve.

However, I'm positive there has never been a superhero who was instantly good at being one at first anyway, and I’m sure Ryan will find her footing eventually.

The superhero show’s second season will see the characters grappling with Kate’s disappearance from Gotham City and her absence will play a role in the mystery of Season 2. It’s unclear how exactly Ryan will happen upon the Batwoman suit or even how she’ll cross paths with the rest of the characters, but it’s perhaps the uncertainty of it all that makes it all the more thrilling.

Batwoman Season 2 is set to premiere in January 2021 on The CW. Other Arrowverse shows like The Flash and Black Lightning are also scheduled to return for their respective seasons that month.
