Have you been wondering what The West Wing cast has been up to since it ended? Well, Rob Lowe is currently starring on the 9-1-1 spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and a new Season 2 casting will deliver a reunion between him and a West Wing co-star. So, who is joining Lowe?

Deadline reports that The Kominsky Method’s Lisa Edelstein has joined the cast of 9-1-1: Lone Star for Season 2 in the recurring role of Gwyneth. Edelstein’s character has a close relationship with Rob Lowe’s Owen. Gwyneth is Owen’s ex-wife, who works as a lawyer. After the way 9-1-1: Lone Star ended its first season, Gwyneth’s arrival makes perfect sense heading into Season 2.

Gwyneth will arrive in Austin all the way from New York City to be at the side of her and Owen’s son, T.K., after he was shot and ended up in the hospital last season. Lisa Edelstein and Rob Lowe are no strangers to playing love interests. However, their 9-1-1: Lone Star characters are exes.

I would expect viewers to sense some of the sparks that led to their characters’ marriage, but they will have to wait and see. Lisa Edelstein will also reportedly return for The Kominsky Method’s third season even though Alan Arkin has departed the show. Arkin played her father. While Edelstein will not reunite with her TV dad on Netflix, she will be reuniting with her former West Wing flame on Fox.

It is not the first reunion of its kind. Last year, Bradley Whitford reunited with his West Wing co-star Joshua Malina on the NBC musical comedy, Perfect Harmony. Now, Rob Lowe will reunite with Lisa Edelstein, who previously recurred as Laurie on The West Wing. She and Rob Lowe’s Sam Seaborn stirred up a romance on the drama for a time.

The news of Lisa Edelstein joining the cast of 9-1-1: Lone Star comes as Season 2 is firming up its ensemble. Edelstein is not the only one who has joined Season 2. Suits legend Gina Torres has come on board as a paramedic captain and mother of twins named Tommy Vega. Meanwhile, Liv Tyler has exited the series due to COVID-related travel issues.

Liv Tyler’s inability to safely travel from her home-base in London to the production’s location in Los Angeles prevents her from rejoining the series in Season 2. Thankfully, Lisa Edelstein and Gina Torres will be around to fill the void.

Rob Lowe will return for Season 2 of 9-1-1: Lone Star after this fall’s premieres. For past episodes of The West Wing, head over to HBO Max. Otherwise, you can check out Lisa Edelstein on The Kominsky Method by streaming the first two seasons on Netflix, alongside lots of new 2020 content.
