Wait, Could The Rock Actually Play In The XFL? Here's What He Says

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on The Titan Games

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is many things – an actor, producer, retired pro wrestler, former football player and businessman. Those last two titles are likely two of the biggest reasons why decided to purchase the XFL. Johnson seems more than ready to revitalize the football league from within the board room, but one also has to wonder if he’d be willing to do the same on the field.

The wrestler-turned-actor may be 48 years old, yet anyone who’s seen him knows he’s definitely still in shape. So it would be understandable to wonder if he would ever consider suiting up and playing in the XFL himself. Well, in a recent Instagram post in which he showed himself working up a sweat, Johnson finally provided an answer:

As an owner of the XFL, that’s my priority - create opportunities for players to live out their dreams, feed their families and ball out - XFL style.

So based on his sentiments, it would seem that Dwayne Johnson is more than content with solely making change as an XFL owner as opposed to a player. Still, that didn’t stop him from reminiscing on his gridiron glory days and pondering the idea of a return:

I was a good football player with great 'upper body violence' as my coach, Ed Orgeron loved to call it, so maybe I’ll be the first owner in pro football history to actually suit up and play in the game.

Dwayne Johnson was originally a college athlete, who played the defensive tackle position for the University of Miami and was with the team when they won the national championship in 1991. He had hoped to be picked up by a professional team during the 1995 NFL Draft, but he went undrafted and signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was ultimately cut from that team during his first season and eventually decided to enter the world of pro wrestling.

If anything, Johnson definitely still has the competitive spirit of an athlete, and he also appears to be in shape for it. But believe it or not, he honestly doesn’t actually like his chances against the new crop of XFL talent:

No doubt, I’ll get my ass whupped, but at least I’m goin’ out on my shield - XFL style.

To many of us, Dwayne Johnson would still seem like a shoo in for XFL MVP, even at this point in his life. Yet he has proven that he knows both his physical and mental limits so, if he says he’d probably get wiped out, it’s probably true. You can check out his full social media post down below:

The media mogul, however, does have a busy schedule as it is, being one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood after all. He’s also entered the reality TV competition realm with his hit NBC show, The Titan Games. Needless to say, even Dwayne Johnson wouldn’t have the energy to do all of that and be a full-time football player. Regardless, it’s nice that he’ll still be able to stay close to the sport, thanks to his new position.
