Hulu New Releases: Movies And TV Shows Streaming In October 2020

Bad Hair three ladies looking intrigued in the office

Depending on how you like to celebrate, October is a month that could mean a festival of beer and bratwurst, or one centered on blood and boos (and booze). The one place that you can always safely indulge in either is, of course, in the privacy of your own home, which is also the natural habitat of streaming services like Hulu, where there are plenty of upcoming releases to enjoy through the Halloween season.

October 2020 has a bunch of titles that will be ready and able to help you celebrate any scenario you choose, with good times aplenty in both the spooky and non-spooky section of the streaming giant's library. If you want to see what else is on the way in September 2020’s listing of incoming titles, we’ll provide the link for that rundown after we’re through. For now, let’s take a look at Hulu's future to see what spooky delights await in October 2020!

Hulu’s TV Highlights For October 2020

Hulu originals are making one hell of a play in October 2020, as two pretty big horror offerings are coming online. Marvel fans will be pleased to know that the wait for Helstrom is finally over thanks to this month’s crop of programing, as the story of the titular family and their fight against supernatural evil is making its debut on the platform just in time for Halloween. For those that thought this year’s chain of delay-inciting events would have put that comic book adaptation on the backburner, your fears are thankfully unwarranted.

If you’re looking for more of an anthology style approach to your horror, then you’ll be interested to hear that another new series, Mary Laws' Monsterland, plays directly into that particular brand. Drawing inspiration from the short story collection North American Lake Monsters, written by author Nathan Ballingrud, Monsterland features an assorted cast that includes Unbelievable’s Kaitlyn Dever and Star Wars alum Kelly Marie Tran. Much like any good trick-or-treater, you’ll have an assorted bag of scares and frights to choose from with this brand new series, and can enjoy them as you may.

And for those of you who are reeling from Superstore's unexpected Season 6 finale, there’s some good news! October looks like it’ll bring the resolution to that lingering question of how and if Jonah and Amy’s relationship will survive her big move to Cloud 9’s corporate sector. Though, judging how America Ferrera’s exit from the show is probably why Amy’s going off to California, we’re betting that’s going to be a big nope.

Hulu’s Movie Highlights For October 2020

Anthology fans who want some more Monsterland style fun can also take in a movie of a similar approach. Based on famed horror author Clive Barker’s anthologies of short stories, Books of Blood sees three varying tales of terror coming to life on the screen near the beginning of the month. Interestingly, it was directed by Brannon Braga, one of the masterminds behind The Orville and several Star Trek projects, and it should be said that this particular product is one you’ll want to make sure the kids don’t get their eyes into.

Meanwhile, another horror film with a similarly menacing vibe is premiering as a Hulu original, from the writer/director that made Dear White People. Justin Simien’s Bad Hair sees a particularly interesting menace at its forefront, as a young woman’s weave might be influencing her journey to the top of the ’80s entertainment world, and with some pretty dire consequences. A pretty stacked cast that includes Lena Waithe, James Van Der Beek, Vanessa Williams, and Orange is the New Black’s Laverne Cox makes this film a can’t-miss experience.

Hulu is bringing big entertainment home to its subscribers yet again in October 2020! But keep an eye out on this schedule from time to time, as all titles are subject to change and availability. You never know when something you’ve been looking forward to can seem to disappear into the night. So stay safe, stream responsibly, and we’ll see you back here around this time next month, when November 2020’s cornucopia of delights hits our eager eyes. In the meantime, head to our Fall 2020 TV premiere schedule to see what shows are on the way outside of Hulu.
