Kelly Clarkson has been going through a lot lately as she balances her thriving career with the recent status of her personal life. Back in June, fans were left stunned when it was revealed that Clarkson had filed for divorce from her husband, Brandon Blackstock. Now, Clarkson is giving a blunt response to a fan who thinks TV ended her marriage.

In a since-deleted tweet, a user took aim at Kelly Clarkson following the news that she would be filling in for Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent. Cowell broke his back in a recent accident, and it required surgery. With Cowell out for a couple of episodes, Clarkson agreed to fill in. Her even busier career is what this fan believed contributed to the demise of Clarkson’s marriage, writing:

Now Kelly is taking Simon’s place…no wonder her marriage didn’t work…surprise she has time for her kids…not the good old country girl we fell in love with…it’s all about Kelly being on TV…and no one else…no tears for her…but for her kids

The tweet seems to be referencing Kelly Clarkson’s ever-expanding career as she continues to build a name for herself outside of her singing career. Clarkson is a coach on The Voice and hosts her own self-titled talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. The latter of which recently received some Daytime Emmy love.

Kelly Clarkson won the Daytime Emmy Award for Entertainment Talk Show Host, and she sent some love to her soon-to-be-ex-husband following that win, as Brandon Blackstock is one of the show’s producers. If the tweeter thought that Clarkson’s career success has led to her divorce, Clarkson did not take the tweet lying down and has set the record straight. She addressed it head-on, tweeting this:

In true Kelly Clarkson style, she defended herself, while signing off on a kind note to the person who had sent the incendiary tweet. Clarkson’s response indicates that her post on America’s Got Talent is only temporary as she fills in for a friend who asked her for a favor.

Kelly Clarkson’s response indicates that, contrary to what the fan tweet suggested, the EGOT contender is not desperate to be on every TV show. She simply agreed to help someone out of a bind. As for what led to the collapse of Clarkson’s seemingly wonderful marriage, insiders have had their say.

In the wake of Kelly Clarkson’s shocking divorce news, one source cited the stress of quarantine as the culprit. Meanwhile, another inside source indicated the couple working so hard made it tough for them to have one-on-one time as they balanced parenthood. For her part, Kelly Clarkson is moving forward.

Ahead of this fall’s premieres, you can catch Kelly Clarkson filling in for Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent when the next new episode airs Tuesday, August 18, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. Make sure to check your local listings to learn when and where The Kelly Clarkson Show airs in your area.
