becca kufrin garret yrigoyen interview people tv

We all know that relationships can be difficult under any circumstances, and those who decide to take a chance at finding love on reality TV certainly don't have it any easier (and may even have it harder) than the rest of us. The fans of Bachelor Nation know this all too well, as we've seen dozens of couples get together, and sometimes even marry, only to split not long after. Well, a little over two years after meeting on The Bachelorette in 2018, falling for each other and getting engaged, Becca Kufrin and Garrett Yrigoyen have now also broken up. But, this comes after years of problematic behavior from Garrett.

The attraction seemed to be pretty immediate between Becca and Garrett on her season of The Bachelorette, so much so that she even gave him her first impression rose on the first night. But, sources close to the couple are now telling E! News that they've broken off their engagement and "are still working things out, but the relationship is definitely done." Fans of the couple will know that Becca and Garret have had an especially hard time lately, with him coming under fire (yet again) for statements made on social media regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.

Not only did Garrett's recent support of the "Thin Blue Line" (a phrase associated with the Blue Lives Matter countermovement) in a lengthy social media post amid protests over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others, anger several members of Bachelor Nation, with former stars like Rachel Lindsay, Bekah Martinez, and Nick Viall all calling him out, but Becca admitted at the time that it put a strain on their relationship. And, the word is that this is what led to the breakup. Here's what the source had to say:

Becca is still very upset with Garrett's comments and the controversy surrounding it. Their lifestyles don't mesh anymore. Garrett wants different things and they came to a realization that they aren't compatible anymore.

It would appear that Becca has been dealing with Garrett's problematic behavior since they left the Bachelorette Bubble after they finished filming her season. As we watched her fall in love with him, it was revealed that he had made a habit of repeatedly liking offensive social media posts, and was found to have double-tapped posts that mocked the trans community, undocumented immigrants, liberal feminists and even a Parkland shooting survivor.

In early June 2018, he issued an apology, but while Becca admitted at the time that she didn't "condone that" with regards to the posts Garrett liked, she stood by him and said he had shown her that he wanted "to learn and grow from it." It became very clear in recent weeks, though, that Becca was still taken aback by Garrett's support of ideologies which don't sit well with her.

During two June episodes of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, which she hosts with Rachel Lindsay, Becca first had to come out again and say she didn't agree with Garrett's recent post, but still tried to stick up for him, saying that she believes "he is a good person" and calling his post "tone-deaf." But, the next episode saw her admit to listeners that she was really going through it with Garrett, saying that she didn't know where their relationship stood at that moment.

Well, no one can say that Becca and Garrett didn't try to come to some agreements in their romance, or gave up too soon. Let's just hope that they can get over the breakup as painlessly as possible.

The Bachelorette will be back on ABC this fall with Clare Crawley (and maybe Tayshia Adams, too), at 8 p.m. EST on Tuesdays. For more on what to watch in the coming weeks, check out our summer TV guide and fall premiere schedule!
