The Handmaid's Tale Star Elisabeth Moss Lands Another New Show, And We're Still Waiting On Season 4

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 had barely begun filming when shutdowns in March halted all production. Since then, the Hulu series has been in a bit of limbo and there’s still no news on when the cast is expected to return to finish the season. However, while we wait for news on The Handmaid’s Tale, Moss has landed a new TV project for another streaming service.

Elisabeth Moss is set to executive produce and star in the Apple TV+ series Shining Girls. The series is based on the 2013 novel by Lauren Beukes, who will also executive produce the series alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions, and Silka Luisa, who will serve as showrunner. Described as a metaphysical thriller, Shining Girls stars Elisabeth Moss as a Chicago reporter who, after being brutally assaulted, finds that her reality is changing while she searches for her attacker.

The novel itself is set during Depression-era Chicago and centers Harper Curtis, who finds a portal to different time periods. He stalks women throughout time to kill them, but the one who survives, Kirby Mazrachi, pursues him. It’s not confirmed, but I’d wager that Moss will play Kirby in the show. As of this writing, no other cast members have been announced yet.

Based on the summary alone, Shining Girls sounds right up Elisabeth Moss’ alley. Besides The Handmaid’s Tale, the actress also starred in the horror film Invisible Man, which saw Moss’ character being stalked by her abusive husband.

Shining Girls joins an extensive list of Apple TV+’s original programming. The streaming service has been expanding its library of shows, which now includes Chris EvansDefending Jacob, the Jennifer Aniston-Reese Witherspoon series The Morning Show, and Hailee Steinfeld’s Dickinson, among several others. Upcoming Apple TV+ series include Lisey’s Story, Mosquito Coast, and the historical drama Hedy Lamarr, which will star Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot.

Elisabeth Moss is an acting powerhouse and tends to stay busy. In addition to Shining Girls, the actress will be playing a villainous role in the limited series Candy. With so much on her plate, will we ever hear news of The Handmaid’s Tale? If I had to guess, I think Elisabeth Moss will probably have to finish filming Season 4 of the Hulu series before jumping to the next project, but it’s all speculation for now.

The Handmaid’s Tale is scheduled to premiere at some point in 2021, though Elisabeth Moss is unsure of when the cast and crew will get back to filming the remainder of Season 4. Some television productions have already resumed filming, but it’s all uncharted territory given the current state of things.
