There's A New Star Wars Rumor That Donald Glover May Return As Lando For Disney+

The Star Wars universe is filled with as many theories and rumors as it is filled with oddball creatures, and it's never obvious to know what will or won't pan out, since virtually anything is possible at this point. But a new rumor has surfaced that has me a little perplexed, though still quite excited about the prospects of its potential legitimacy: Donald Glover is reportedly being sought to reprise his Solo: A Star Wars Story role of Lando Calrissian for a new Disney+ TV series.

That's a gobsmacker of a sentence, no doubt. As awesome as the concept is on paper, it's not necessarily the most likely project to join Disney+'s second wave of Star Wars TV shows. The rumor comes from the Kessel Run Radio podcast's latest installment, though it's noted during the clip below that while it's supposedly in talks for becoming a reality, it is not a confirmed project by any means at this point.

After all, the multi-hyphenate Donald Glover always seems to be working on one thing or another, from Disney reimaginings to Marvel projects to award-winning FX shows to award winning music. So it's not like he's just oozing free time, especially if we ever get that Community movie that seems more possible now than ever. That said, Glover is also the kind of extremely talented superstar that could single-handedly keep Star Wars flashback projects relevant if the Lando TV show ever happens, so it's okay to keep hope alive in this case.

Check out the rumor being delivered below and judge for yourself how realistic these chances are.

We know that Alden Ehrenreich is technically up for another Star Wars project if it's a proper fit, so perhaps fans could see his Han Solo once again, if only for more of a cameo role on TV. Wouldn't it be amazing if Disney+ brought in Solo's ousted directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to work on the TV series and fully develop some of the Lando concepts they intended to use in the film? That sounds about as realistic as Unkar Plutt getting his own quarter-portion of a TV show, but it'd be awesome all the same.

With The Mandalorian Season 2 set to definitely premiere later in 2020, Disney+ also has its Rogue One prequel centered on Diego Luna's Cassian Andor in the works, as well as Ewan McGregor's standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries. (The latter is rumored to be bringing Hayden Christensen back as both Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader, but that has yet to be confirmed.) The streaming service also tapped Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland to head up a new Star Wars series centering on a female lead character.

Is there even room on Disney+ for a Lando Calrissian show in this bunch? Is there room anywhere for a Solo spinoff? Would it make more sense for a project like this to wait a while longer before getting fully planned out? We might not get answers to these questions for a while, but it's still worth having conversations about it, right?
