Ali Fedotowsky interview

Ali Fedotowsky has been bringing light into the lives of Bachelor Nation denizens since she romanced Jake Pavelka in Season 14 of The Bachelor back in 2010. Of course, Ali went on to lead the following season of The Bachelorette, but, even though she did eventually find love with radio and TV host Kevin Manno (whom she married in early 2017), she's now revealed that she's endured heartbreak of a different sort. Ali has now gone public with an emotional post on social media, where she talks about her recent miscarriage.

Ali Fedotowsky and Kevin Manno have two young children (daughter Molly Sullivan, 4, and son Riley Doran, 2), but the entertainment journalist took to her Instagram page recently to reveal that she'd suffered a miscarriage. Ali said that she was posting from her car after a follow up appointment with her doctor, and went into some detail about what happened. Here's part of what she had to say about why she decided to open up about the miscarriage:

I am 1 in 4. I don’t really know what to say here. I’m sitting in my car, using talk to text & I’m just gonna speak from my heart. I had a miscarriage recently...I’m not sharing this bc I feel sorry for myself or I want others to tell me they feel sorry for me. I don’t feel sorry for myself. I feel sad for what could’ve been. Sad for the baby that was growing inside me. Sad because it’s sad...I’m writing this post to let others know who have experienced pregnancy loss know that I see you & feel you. We all go through different emotions & process the loss differently. I know that my loss is not the same as someone who’s had a stillbirth or lost a baby at 20 weeks. Or someone who has been trying to conceive for years. But what I found so shocking about my experience is that it affected me so much harder than I could have imagined. So know that if you’re going or have gone through this, your feelings are valid - whatever they may be.

Unfortunately, Ali Fedotowsky isn't the only public member of Bachelor Nation to have gone through this type of personal tragedy lately, as it was just in late May that former star of The Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr., and his wife, Lauren Burnham, spoke about the recent loss of their own child after learning that Lauren's pregnancy was no longer viable. Their reasons for sharing their story were much the same as Ali's desire to open up, as they also wanted to let other people who'd gone through similar experiences know that they weren't alone.

While Ali admitted that she didn't know if she'd ever be willing to share what happened with her miscarriage in full, she did reveal some of the sad details after issuing a content warning for those who may still be, understandably, quite sensitive to such information. From what she said in her post, her situation was very different from that of Arie and Lauren, and Ali did make considerable effort to honor the different ways these losses happen and to tell everyone who's gone through it that all of their feelings about their particular situation are valid.

I am 1 in 4. I don’t really know what to say here. I’m sitting in my car, using talk to text & I’m just gonna speak from my heart. I had a miscarriage recently (I’m at the OBGYN right now for a follow up). I’m not sharing this bc I feel sorry for myself or I want others to tell me they feel sorry for me. I don’t feel sorry for myself. I feel sad for what could’ve been. Sad for the baby that was growing inside me. Sad because it’s sad. I want to share this because I think it’s important. I’m so uplifted and encouraged by the way I’m seeing social media change. Change from being a place where everyone shares the highlights of their life and now being a place where people share the good & the bad - the smiles & the tears. ?? It’s such a long story of how it all happened. I’m not ready to fully talk about it and I honestly don’t know if I ever will be. (CONTENT WARNING - this may be difficult to read. Especially for those who have experienced a pregnancy loss) It happened early one morning when I had intense cramping. I passed the gestational sac - which was the size of a plum - in my bedroom. I was in complete shock when it happened. I sat and stared at it for hours - not able to fully comprehend what happened. And the utter exhaustion that took over my body in the few days after that was almost debilitating. Actually, being completely exhausted for weeks was one of the first signs that I was pregnant. ???? I’m writing this post to let others know who have experienced pregnancy loss know that I see you & feel you. We all go through different emotions & process the loss differently. I know that my loss is not the same as someone who’s had a stillbirth or lost a baby at 20 weeks. Or someone who has been trying to conceive for years. Some time after sharing the news, Ali posted an update and admitted that she'd been going back and forth over the past couple of weeks about whether or not to make her miscarriage public, but noted that "almost all the reasons I didn't want to share, ended up being the exact reasons why I knew I needed to." Ali also thanked her followers for their support and "reminding me and helping me see that it's OK to feel supported in this moment," so, hopefully, she and her family can heal from this loss before too long.
