Good News, One Of Marvel’s Disney+ Shows Is Still Set To Premiere On Time In Spite Of Delays

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision in WandaVision (2020)

Marvel Studios is one of the entertainment entities that’s been hit the hardest by the global health crisis. Around this time last year, at San Diego Comic-Con, the studio showed off an impressive slate of film and TV content. Now, thanks to COVID, the company has yet to release any new content this year and is still facing delays. Despite all of this, it still appears that at least one Marvel show will still make its way to the small screen on schedule.

Marvel’s WandaVision is still set to premiere on Disney+ at the tail end of the year. The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news when reporting on the further development of the Hawkeye series. This report comes shortly after Disney+’s August slate confirmed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would not be arriving as expected.

The Falcon and the Winter Solider was originally set to kick off Marvel’s Disney+ slate, but it would now appear that WandaVision will take the lead. As of right now, it’s unclear as to when Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki (which were both filming before the shutdown) will resume production.

News of WandaVision staying on course is definitely great to hear, but it does come as somewhat of a surprise. Although the series was reported to have wrapped back in early March (before things shut down), further updates have indicated that there’s still more filming to be done. Kathryn Hahn, one the show’s stars, even confirmed that she still has work left to do.

With filming restrictions gradually lifting in the US, we may be able to assume that any remaining work on WandaVision is light and could be completed in a short amount of time. And as a result, the show could very well still make its December 2020 deadline.

Fans are more than excited for the MCU project, but there are still plenty of unknowns when it comes to WandaVision’s actual plot. What is known is that it’ll reunite Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff with Paul Bettany’s Vision and that the two will be living life through various sitcom homages. Familiar faces like Thor’s Kat Dennings and Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Randall Park will also be popping up.

The cast, as you would expect, can’t say anything specific about the project, but that hasn’t stopped them from praising the material. Kathryn Hahn called working on the show a “surreal” experience, while Paul Bettany referred to it as “bonkers.”

Questions are sure to linger up to WandaVision’s premiere but, at the very least, the Marvel faithful can take heart in knowing that it’s still on course for its debut. With so much hype surrounding it, one can only hope that it will live up to expectations, especially if it ends up becoming one of the only pieces of MCU content to see the light of day in 2020.
