How Discovery And Science Channel Are Honoring Mythbusters Co-Host Grant Imahara After His Death

Grant Imahara The White Rabbit Project

The sudden and unexpected death of Mythbusters co-host Grant Imahara hit the world hard, but there has been no shortage of those honoring and sharing the love they had for Imahara. That trend will continue this weekend thanks to a collaboration between Discovery and Science Channel, which will both host marathons in his honor on separate days.

Discovery Channel will kick things off on Friday, July 17 with a solid five-hour block of content dedicated to Grant Imahara. Yes, there is a lot of Mythbusters (with episodes said to focus on Imahara's favorite moments) but it all kicks off with something else that harkens back to the co-host's Battlebots days. Here's what's in store:

8 a.m. - Killer Robots: Robo Games 20119 a.m. - MythBusters -- "Mailbag Special"10 a.m. – MythBusters -- "Motorcycle Water Ski"11 a.m. – MythBusters – “Paper Armor”12 p.m. – MythBusters – “Blue Ice”

Killer Robots: Robo Games 2011 features Grant Imahara highlighting the International Robogames Competition, a competition in which engineers work to create robots capable of causing "mechanized mayhem." As previously mentioned, Imahara had some experience in the robotics field piloting Deadblow on Battlebots. Deadblow would go on to appear on Mythbusters and become a permanent member of the build team.

The Grant Imahara marathon will pick up the next day on Science Channel and feature four hours of more Mythbusters, and a re-airing of Killer Robots: Robogames 2011. The Saturday, July 18 marathon will add yet another Imahara project to the mix, with a special episode of his and other former Mythbusters crews' Netflix project.

3 p.m. – Killer Robots: Robogames 20114 p.m. – MythBusters: Shooting Fish in a Barrel5 p.m. – MythBusters: Dog Myths6 p.m. – MythBusters: Paper Armor7 p.m. – MythBusters: Motorcycle Water Ski8 p.m. – White Rabbit Project: May G Force Be with You

Do not overlook the cleverness of that White Rabbit Project episode title, because I certainly missed the Star Wars reference the first couple times. "Motorcycle Water Skiing" and "Paper Armor" will play again on Saturday following their Friday airings, which both have classic moments fans of Mythbusters may remember. This includes the team testing armor made out of folded paper and seeing if it can withstand an actual attack.

It's a fitting tribute for Grant Imahara, whose sudden passing from a brain aneurysm at age 49 has affected people across the board. Imahara will long be remembered for his contributions to the world of engineering and science education, and that should be evident enough by this trailer promoting the upcoming marathon.

It's such a wholesome trailer showcasing what a great guy Grant Imahara was that I shed a tear watching. I expect to do the same during the coming marathons, and wouldn't be surprised if any past Mythbusters fans happen to do the same.

Again, anyone looking to check out these marathons can catch the first one on Discovery on Friday, July 17 starting at 8:00 a.m. ET, and on Science Channel on Saturday, July 18 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for all the latest headlines in television and movies.
