It seems like just yesterday that Lucy Hale was cast in the title role of the Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene. It was actually more than a year ago. Fast forward to the present, and Hale has been left “confused” by The CW’s cancellation of the series. Well, there is a silver lining to the sad news. That is because there is still hope.

Katy Keene only had a single season under its belt before The CW cancelled the series. The spinoff is not letting that keep it down. According to Deadline, the cast’s contracts have been extended until July 31. That timeframe gives Katy Keene the chance to find a new destination, with its most viable option thought to be HBO Max.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on the news of Katy Keene’s cancellation, Lucy Hale did not seem in that hopeful a spirit. Hale was emotional as she addressed fans in an over 3-minute video about the news, and she expressed her confusion over the entire thing. In doing so, Hale also mentioned Katy Keene’s potential new home, saying:

If you want to keep supporting our show and watching our show, please! I actually recommend that. I’m so proud of what we made, and I do believe it’s timeless. I think that sometimes things just don’t work out, and maybe it was just not the right time for it. I don’t know. I’m a little confused. But yeah, it’s on HBO Max.

Did you catch that? Yes, Lucy Hale encouraged fans to go and watch Katy Keene on HBO Max, where it is currently streaming alongside Hale’s former series, Pretty Little Liars. You have to imagine that if HBO Max sees enough viewers streaming the Riverdale spinoff, they could consider adding it to its slate of originals.

It is a hopeful sign that the contracts have been extended to the end of the month. However, that is not a whole lot of time. A decision would have to come pretty swiftly. From the sound of things, Lucy Hale would welcome the chance to continue Katy Keene. After all, Hale is sadly familiar with having to say goodbye.

The actress’ first TV show after Pretty Little Liars had ended was not Katy Keene. It was actually The CW’s Life Sentence, which also only lasted one season before getting cancelled. The thing that Life Sentence did not have going for it at the time was HBO Max. In fact, it is actually still streaming on Netflix so wasn't able to find second life after getting cancelled. Meanwhile, there may be hope for Katy Keene.

It is a bit complicated, but Life Sentence is streaming on Netflix through a licensing deal. HBO Max is corporately related to WBTV, which means it has the option to continue Katy Keene as well as stream it. So, keep the faith, Lucy Hale! You can check out her full video below:

The one-time Masked Singer suspect has a reason to hope that Katy Keene could get a new life. Riverdale is returning to The CW for a fifth season following that wild cliffhanger. So, continuing the crossover appeal of having Riverdale’s universe extend to Katy Keene’s is still rather strong.

The CW loves its spinoffs, as proven by the Arrowverse. Katy Keene’s mothership series, Riverdale, is currently streaming on Netflix alongside new 2020 offerings. While you wait to see what the future of the spinoff series is, you can check out this summer’s premieres.
