Spoilers ahead for the Season 7 premiere of The 100 on The CW, called "From the Ashes."

The seventh and final season of The 100 has officially kicked off on The CW, and few fans were probably surprised to find that it was an episode packed with fire, fighting, and Clarke making a game-changing decision. What was quite surprising was the shocking and very fast Bellamy twist. The 100's longtime leading man was breaking down in grief over Octavia's apparent death, only to be pulled away by an unseen force and seemingly taken through the Anomaly for some reason. Echo, Hope, and Gabriel didn't even get him back by the end of the hour. Here's what the Bellamy twist means for Season 7 moving forward.

First things first: The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg promised in a chat with TVLine that "we will see him again," so Bellamy's disappearance in the Season 7 premiere doesn't mean he'll be altogether absent from the show's last batch of episodes ever. Rothenberg also stated that his disappearance is "going to play a huge role in the season," then elaborated:

It’s the mystery people are trying to solve. It’s the thing that’s going to be driving so many of our characters this season — to find him and hopefully save him... Bob [Morley] asked to take some time off this season, and we honored that. We were able to write around it.

Not only will Bellamy be back, but his disappearance will drive many characters in the final season of The 100! The show didn't just remove Bellamy because there were no more stories left for his character and he was better off gone, as fans might have feared after he was unceremoniously yanked away from Echo and Co. so early in "From the Ashes." In fact, Jason Rothberg clarified that it was actor Bob Morley's request for some time off that led to the Bellamy twist. Bellamy will be back, and he won't be forgotten in the meantime!

Of course, this also means that Bellamy won't reunite with Clarke any time soon, short of a very unlikely reveal that Bellamy was somehow pulled away just to end up with Clarke and Co., although Clarke might benefit from a heart-to-heart with Bellamy after she snapped on Russell at Sanctum for what he did to Abby.

Although Clarke and Bellamy may be the head and the heart of The 100 (and Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley may be married in real life), their storylines will seemingly be separate for at least a chunk of the final season. In fact, Clarke didn't even mention Bellamy, but she also had enough going on with Maddie and Sanctum that she can be excused for not spending her screentime thinking about the people she wasn't immediately responsible for.

As for whether a Bellarke romance could still happen before the final credits roll on The 100 and potentially deliver that version of a happy ending for some fans, only time will tell. The one thing that we can count on when it comes to Bellamy's arc at this point is that he'll be back.

For now, The 100 will hopefully continue to drop clues about what happened to him and what happens next in that story, even without Bob Morley in front of the camera. New episodes of The 100 air on The CW Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET in the summer TV premiere schedule.
