How Mary-Kate Olsen Is Saving Her Full House (And Fashion) Money During Divorce

One could not ask for a worse time to go through a breakup, but it’s unfortunately the burden that 33-year-old Mary-Kate Olsen and Oliver Sarkozy are in the thick of right now. Amidst stay-at-home orders in NYC as the city continues to fight our current health crisis, one half of Full House’s Olsen twins has signed a petition to divorce her French banker husband of almost five years. Thankfully she has an “ironclad” prenup, but she’s facing another roadblock.

Due to the current situation, New York City is not accepting divorce filings. The fashion designer and former child star claims her husband is forcing her out of their apartment by May 18. She has requested an emergency order to allow her to file paperwork to end their marriage so she can have access to her property and seek an extension so she can wait and move out at the end of the month, per Us Weekly.

Mary-Kate Olsen is hoping to gain access to her “ironclad prenup” and allow it to be enforced, along with an attempt to adhere to the city’s quarantine guidelines through May. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are reportedly worth $500 million together, because the twins also own a couture clothing line called The Row, and the fashion label Elizabeth and James.

Mary-Kate and Ashley memorably had their start on Full House as babies back in 1987 and continued to switch off playing Michelle Tanner for eight seasons of the hit sitcom. The actresses continued to star in a series of films together into their teenage years, with films such as It Takes Two, Passport to Paris and New York Minute. Mary-Kate had an eight-episode guest role on Weeds back in 2007 and bowed out on her film career with 2011’s Beastly.

The Olsen twins would have been welcomed to the Netflix spinoff for their iconic show in Fuller House, but there’s a reason why they have never made an appearance.

Unlike their sister, Elizabeth Olsen, who has pursued an acting career as an adult (most notably as Scarlet Witch in the MCU, which has led to her own solo show in the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision), the twins are no longer interested in acting careers and do not share the same nostalgia over the show due to their young ages during filming. So, Fuller House will conclude its five season run this summer without Michelle Tanner making a return. And Candace Cameron Bure even said of their continued absence that "it was very clear several seasons ago that they did not want to do it."

Fuller House will return for its final episodes on June 2., but let's all hope that the divorce proceedings turn out alright for Mary-Kate Olsen and don't become any more contentious than they, seemingly, already have. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on the three Olsen sisters, and everything in TV and movies.
