The brothers of Bravo Team on CBS' SEAL Team have been through a lot of personal and professional ups and downs this season. Sonny and Clay got heated before the team was deployed, with Sonny then being sent to Texas and Clay heading off to COP Redding. Jason seems to be coming to some sort of crossroads in his career as their leader, and, in general there has just been a lot of upheaval with people coming and going from the team and tensions abounding. Now David Boreanaz is saying that the impromptu Season 3 finale is going to include something very "unexpected" for fans.
David Boreanaz, who plays Bravo Team lead Jason on SEAL Team, recently spoke with TV Insider about the new Season 3 finale. The show had to stop production with two episodes left to complete, meaning that Episode 20 is now set as the closer to this tension-filled season. Luckily, it sounds like the episode will do just fine as a finale, because, according to Boreanaz, it will leave audiences with a twist they won't see coming. Here's what he had to say:
As the season progressed, obviously we saw some people go in different directions within the team and some additions and some subtractions and then back together again. Where they end up will be interesting. This is not exactly the way we wanted to end this specific season, but we'll say it's an unexpected kind of plot twist, for sure, the way it ends. All of his team is consistently trying to get back into the fold and get the band back together, but there's a lot of cracks around all of them. Those cracks will be shown even more so in the next episode and then [that would have continued in] 21 and 22.
Oooh. Well, while it's not ideal that SEAL Team didn't get to wrap up its season as planned, at least they seem to be ending on an intriguing note that will leave fans absolutely wanting more. As David Boreanaz mention in his interview, Bravo Team's members have been moving all around, coming to and then going from the team for a large part of the season. So, what could this unexpected plot twist involve?
Jason has been dealing with a metric ton of heavy stuff this season after what he went through in his personal life last year, and saw his desire to push through and continue being Bravo Team's fearless leader without fully processing everything lead to a mistake that almost cost him his life early in Season 3. It's pretty clear that those issues are still weighing on him, as they would for pretty much anyone at this point, but this could be one of the cracks of which David Boreanaz spoke.
The audience (and Jason, for that matter) has seen that the team is still the team without Jason. While he always wants to be on the ground with them when they're tasked with a dangerous mission, he knows that he can trust leadership to whomever is best suited for a particular job, and that Ray, Clay, Sonny, et al. will follow suit and get the job done. So, might this twist see Jason take a semi-extended break from the team to clear his head for a bit? I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
Season 3 of SEAL Team will wrap up tonight, Wednesday, May 6 on CBS at 10 p.m. EST, and Season 4 has just been announced, so we'll get to see whatever comes of this unexpected finale twist.
