Donnie Wahlberg Accidentally Reveals Big Blue Bloods Season 11 Renewal

Blue Bloods Donnie Wahlberg Season 11 renewal

It’s that time of year when the major networks start to make decisions about some of our favorite shows. We’ve already said goodbye to some favorites like God Friended Me, but the majority of network shows – even the ones that seem to be locks for renewals rather than cancellations – have not been announced yet. But Blue Bloods fans can apparently breathe a sigh of relief thanks to Donnie Wahlberg accidentally revealing the series has been renewed for Season 11.

Donnie Wahlberg was talking with fans earlier in May and was asked whether or not Blue Bloods had yet been renewed for Season 11. Instead of playing it coy, the actor responded with a real answers, saying “yes” it is renewed on Twitter. This is big news and prompted fans to declare sentiments, such as they are “so happy Blue Bloods is not ending" and "I knew it would be picked up for another season."

The reason this is a pretty big deal is that CBS has not officially officially renewed Blue Bloods yet. Regardless, the last ratings announcement from the Eye Network indicated the series is still Friday’s top program in total viewers. In fact, 8.02 million viewers watched the show during the final week of April, which is an even bigger feat when you consider it’s the 10 p.m. program on Friday nights and the show regularly bests earlier shows MacGyver and Magnum P.I. in total viewers.

The point being, CBS shows often get more popular with age -- at least to a certain point -- and while ratings have been very different in recent years and especially different given the hunkering down this spring, Blue Bloods wasn’t exactly what I generally would think of as a bubble show. Still, hearing confirmation from Donnie Wahlberg that the show will be back is reassuring and good news indeed because it means no one has to worry about Season 11.

The thing is, you never really know when main members of a cast may be thinking about calling it quits, which is how The Big Bang Theory ended up wrapping when it was still popular. The good news for Blue Bloods is that plenty of leads on the series have been open about wanting the show to stick around in the past. In fact, Abigail Hawk previously said during the show’s 200th episode milestone that she hopes it sticks around for 200 more, noting,

I think we’re a beautiful well-oiled machine. I hope we get to continue doing it for another 200. I’m game.

Other actors like Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg have also been positive about keeping the show on the air in the past. Selleck even recently said he was negotiating right now for Season 11 and had hopes the network would start locking the cast in for multiple seasons at a time.

So, basically, it’s not really a question of if the series will be renewed, but when Season 11 will be announced. Now, when filming will be able to move forward on the next set of episodes is another question entirely.

A lot of finales for the 2019-2020 season are on the way or have already happened, but there is still a bunch of stuff to look forward to this summer and you can check it out with our summer schedule. Meanwhile, we will be sure to keep you updated when CBS makes Donnie Wahlberg’s big reveal official.
