How Guy Fieri Stops Himself From Packing On The Pounds With Food Network Shows

Guy Fieri first made it big on Food Network back in 2006, when he was crowned the winner of the competition series The Next Food Network Star, and he's gone on to host and appear in a slew of high-caloric series since then. If I was in his position, I probably would have exploded at this point like Mr. Creosote in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. Yet despite having gone to hundreds of different restaurants for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives alone, Fieri has maintained a steady physique.

Though some people might believe that Guy Fieri's life is a one-way street of pounding down burgers, hot dogs and pizza, he explained to Variety how he manages to maintain self-control while filming on the road. In his words:

I’m not a huge fried food fan myself. Personally, I’m a big vegetable fan and I have to be very cautious of what I eat and how much I eat of it. And yes, have they had to come up to me and say ‘Chef, you’ve got two more locations today. You cannot have all the enchiladas’? And have they taken them out of my hands? Yes, they have.

Well there you go. In the first place, it sounds like Guy Fieri might only chow down on fried foods when it's part of the job, and not so much in his free time. That's seemingly when he gets more invested in making sure his vegetable intake is on the up and up. Whenever he's filming episodes filled with lobster ravioli, biscuits & gravy burritos, and sandwiches made up of pulled pork, brisket and sausage, it probably helps to have an appetite that embraces veggies.

It does sound like he gets tempted every once in a while to keep on eating whatever food is being promoted during Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, only to be told by producers that it would be best for him to save some of his belly space for the rest of the day's meals. I wouldn't want to be the guy having to snatch food out of Fieri's hands, though. He might show me the quickest way to the funeral home in Flavor Town.

For some good and positive-minded news, Guy Fieri has teamed up with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) in order to head up the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, which will allow food service workers who are currently out of work to apply for $500 grants to help them out during these difficult times. The fund has already brought in millions of dollars after just a few days, so here's hoping it only gets bigger from here.

And now, because I mentioned it earlier, here's the Mr. Creosote scene from Meaning of Life, showcasing a horrifically hilarious performance from the late Terry Jones.

You can catch Guy Fieri on the road with Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives every Friday night on Food Network at 8:00 p.m. ET. You can also see him hosting Tournament of Champions' finale on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
