The Masked Singer's Christmas Tree Delivered A Glowing Performance, But Was It Enough?

Christmas Tree The Masked Singer

Warning! The following contains spoilers for The Masked Singer episode "A Pain In The Mask." Read at your own risk!

The Masked Singer has had a competitive Season 2, and it's really showing now that the singing series is getting down to the nitty gritty. Even The Leopard has stepped up his game, and it's looking like just about any of the remaining competitors have a shot at being the Season 2 champion. The Christmas Tree has been a favorite of many to make it to the late rounds, but was her glowing performance of a Lady Gaga song enough to make it to the late rounds?

Sadly, the answer was no. Christmas Tree belted out an impressive rendition of "The Edge Of Glory," but was ultimately the singer with the lowest votes at the end of the night. That meant it was time for her to remove her tree topper and reveal her true identity to the world. After a bit of struggling with the mask, it turned out the mysterious tree was none other than former Saturday Night Live cast member and Mean Girls actress Ana Gasteyer.

All the judges were surprised, save one. Jenny McCarthy is on a hot streak this season, and while she was originally on the fence about which former Saturday Night Live actress was under the mask, she ultimately chose Ana Gasteyer as her final option. Ken Jeong was one of the most embarrassed of the bunch, as Gasteyer reminded him they had worked together on A Christmas Story Live! Jeong admitted he forgot he did that project, otherwise he might've remembered her musical number and her great voice.

Truth be told, Ana Gasteyer's "The Edge Of Glory" performance was fantastic, and her only problem was she was up against the most elite singers remaining in the competition. Everyone was on fire tonight, to the point that there was no possible way this night could end in any other way than disappointment. This will surely be the case tomorrow, as each singer is consistently giving some of the best performances they ever have on The Masked Singer.

Even so, I have to think the next person to leave The Masked Singer will be The Leopard. The competitor has done a fantastic job with song choice in the late rounds, but in truth should've been gone a couple of rounds ago. He's been on borrowed time for a bit, and while his latest performance was solid, it'll be a real shame if he continues to stay over some of the remaining singers in the competition.
