The competition in The Masked Singer Season 2 is heating up more than ever now that the Butterfly has flapped her wings for the last time, but Fox is already looking ahead to the third season of television's most bonkers competition show. In fact, The Masked Singer got out ahead of the next episode and revealed the first Season 3 costume, and in true Masked Singer fashion, the reveal couldn't have been much more ridiculous. Take a look!

That right there is the Instagram picture of a grinning banana duct-taped to a wall, complete with a "peeling" pun in the caption. Could we expect any less of The Masked Singer? The show deserves credit for pulling off something both ridiculous in its own right -- really, is there any way to introduce a googly-eyed banana mask that wouldn't be ridiculous? -- and connected to current events. Yes, this "appeeling" work of art is inspired by real-life art.

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan sold not one but at least two copies of an artistic work that consisted of a banana duct-taped to a white wall. Each edition of the work, called "Comedian," reportedly sold to private collectors for a whopping $120,000... each.

The banana taped to the wall in each case was in fact a real banana, not one made of gold or sculpted in minute detail or constructed in any sort of way that usually would warrant a $120,000 price tag, so this situation was already bizarre enough outside of the art world. And maybe in the art world. $120,000 for a banana taped to a wall!

Yet that wasn't the end of the saga of the wall banana. After the banana art was showcased in Miami Beach, a man by the name of David Datuna went for an "art performance" that consisted of pulling the banana off the wall and eating it. Fortunately, the Miami Herald reports this didn't destroy the value of the piece, as the banana was meant to be replaced as needed.

Hopefully nobody eats the Masked Singer version of the wall banana. Personally, I wouldn't be too shocked if it cost an exorbitant amount of money as well, if not quite $120,000. The masks and outfits for the mystery contestants are incredibly elaborate, even if Banana's looks less detailed than Butterfly and Black Widow's looks in Season 2.

So, who will be the Banana for The Masked Singer Season 3? Fans will have to wait a while to find out, even if Banana is the first one to get the axe. Season 2 is still going strong, and Season 3 evidently won't premiere until directly following the Super Bowl on Fox in February 2020.

New episodes of The Masked Singer air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. For more upcoming viewing options on Fox, the other major networks, and cable, swing by our 2020 winter and spring TV premiere schedule.
