Yellowstone’s Cole Hauser has opened up about Rip’s relationship with Beth and Jamie Dutton, heading into Season 3. As fans know, you could not ask to be in the middle of a more fearsome feud. Beth absolutely loathes her brother, Jamie, which she made incredibly clear last season.
You can check out all of their tense moments as Yellowstone Season 2 is now on DVD and Blu-ray, replete with loads of extras. What makes the situation all the more intense is that Rip is in love with Beth and friends with Jamie. Rip even helped Jamie by engineering a murder cover-up.
So, how does Rip and Jamie’s friendship work when there is so much tension between Beth and her brother? It would seem to put Rip in a rough to an untenable position. Promoting the release of Yellowstone Season 2 on DVD and Blu-ray (out now), Cole Hauser explained the situation, telling me:
Well, Rip isn’t aware of that. You know what I mean? He knows that there's tension, but he doesn't know how deep rooted it is and I think what you'll find out in Season 3 is just how deep a cut it is for Beth. But I think with the relationship with Wes [Jamie], he's always been kind of beaten down in the family and I think that there's a part of Rip that acknowledges that, and understands that kind of quality because in some respects when he was young he was treated that way. So, there is a commonality to the two characters in that way.
It sounds like Rip may be as in the dark regarding the mysterious grudge that Beth is holding against Jamie as viewers are. At least, before Season 3 gets underway. Rip not quite knowing the deep roots of Beth's hostility toward Jamie is pretty telling. This explains how Rip has been able to navigate his relationship with both Dutton siblings on Yellowstone.
Why has Beth not told Rip about how deeply rooted her hatred for Jamie is? What is she holding back? Cole Hauser’s Yellowstone co-stars have previously shed some mysterious light on the foreboding tension between the siblings. If you re-watch Yellowstone Season 2 on DVD and Blu-ray, you could find more clues.
According to Cole Hauser, fans will see Rip become aware of how deep Jamie presumably cut Beth. What on earth happened? Beth’s vitriol towards Jamie hints that whatever it is, it is pretty significant. Yellowstone’s co-creator previously teased that Season 3 will really explore the siblings’ relationship. Rip potentially finding out about Beth’s Jamie issue could be a game-changer.
Depending on what it is, Rip and Jamie’s friendship could end very quickly, and perhaps even violently. Rip is very protective of Beth. Just watch Yellowstone Season 2 on DVD and Blu-ray. I am curious about what will finally make Beth let Rip in more on what is going on between her and Jamie. Is it how close they seem to be getting in Yellowstone Season 3?
Another question I have is if Jamie and Beth’s father is entirely aware what is going on between his kids? Just speculating here, but if Rip is in the dark, it could mean the Yellowstone patriarch is too. It is a lot to consider.
