When The View Could Go Off The Air, According To Joy Behar

The View has been a morning talk show mainstay for 23 seasons, and with all the controversies surrounding the show and how much news the hosts tend to make on their own while battling it out on live TV, it's pretty clear that it won't be going anywhere soon. The show just aired its 5,000th episode this week, which has made people wonder if it will be able to live on for another 5,000 episodes, or even much longer. Well, co-host Joy Behar thinks she knows exactly what will cause the show to get booted from the airwaves.

Joy Behar has been a co-host on The View for all but two seasons (17 and 18) of the long-running ABC hit, so she has pretty good insight on what makes the series so popular, even after all this time, and when it would be most likely to go off the air. Here's what she had to say:

Well, they always said this is a franchise -- this show -- and it will exist, but really, I don't know if that's true. I think that this particular group has a lot of good chemistry that we have now. If you don't have good chemistry, the show will go off the air.

OK, this makes a lot of sense, and I can certainly see where Joy Behar was coming from when she declared, to fellow The View co-host Meghan McCain for an Entertainment Tonight interview, that a lack of chemistry among the hosts is what will lead to the daytime talker leaving the airwaves. And, despite rumors that McCain herself might be stepping away soon because of the pressure she faces as the show's sole conservative voice, it appears that no one is going anywhere anytime in the near future. So, we can probably expect The View to live on for quite some time.

The current season of The View sees Behar and McCain co-host alongside Whoopi Goldberg (cool new dreds included), Abby Huntsman and Sunny Hostin, but even though McCain has been known to get into very heated discussion on live television with her co-hosts (especially Behar and Goldberg), the five women do seem to have a great rapport that helps to keep audiences tuning in every day.

Because of her status as one of the original hosts of The View, and also the host who's had the longest time on the panel in general, Joy Behar knows a lot about how the chemistry among the hosts changes when new panelists are introduced. She's worked alongside all but three former hosts, and has seen the show weather many controversies and behind the scenes challenges.

Bringing new hosts onto the panel is what Behar is talking about when she notes that the producers call it a "franchise." And, I'd say that, because the co-hosts have always managed to get into deep discussions no matter the topic, that both Behar and the producers have the right take on the situation. It has definitely been beneficial whenever the panel has had great chemistry, but the show can clearly survive as hosts come and go.

Luckily, things are working well on The View with Joy Behar and her co-hosts, so the show should be sticking around for many more years to come. You can catch The View, Monday-Friday, on ABC at 11 a.m. EST.
